I think macroeconomics has a lot of influence on the outcomes that drive the rankings. I'd expect these general movements:
**Up**
Australia
Belgium
Canada
China
Ireland

**Stable**
Argentina
France
India
Singapore
UK

**Down**
Italy
Netherlands
Spain
USA

I'd also bet on
- Falling: Bradford, EM Lyon, Lancaster, RSM, Strathclyde, Warwick, US private universities.
- Rising: Cape Town, Dublin, Durham, Hult, Ipade, Melbourne, Vlerick, US state universities.

Yes... economic conditions and EUR declines should draw this picture.
In particular I think that MIP won't stay longer in FT100 and that SDA will lose some: here condititons are so bad (and future looks worse) that I don't see any reasons why good students should come here.
About Belgium.. do you think that Vlerick will gain some positions? Last October I talked with the adcom and he promised to send me the new placement report but he didn't (and it's not available online)
Stupid me to have considered so late the idea to take an mba

Belgium's survived the recession fairly well because of the lack of public sector cuts. The new campus in Brussels and the sustained success of the China and Russia programmes also will help. I find it hard to see how Vlerick could fall. Admittedly, unless it invests in better careers services it will be hard for it to take a huge leap.

The China programme must be great: just look at the diploma: http://en2009.bimba.edu.cn/article.asp?articleid=4526

Hello All,

Does any one tracking the Rankings of univ of Strathclyde..It seems to be dropping year after year. Any speculation of its current stand for the year 2012 ???

similarly, how about univ of St.Gallen, Switzerland.

cheers!!!

In their rankings, the FT tends to weigh post-MBA salary (in real terms as well as overall increase) very heavily. Strathclyde dropped precipitously this year because the average salary increase dropped dramatically (19%) from last year. The overall salary has dropped as well by over $6,000. If I were a betting man, I'd attribute this to the increased number of international students who end up returning to their home countries and don't gain salary increases (or a big salary in real terms, compared to those who stay in the West.)

I don't think that St. Gallen has showed up in the global rankings, but it has faired quite well in the European rankings, where it has gained ground over the past couple years. (although this is the ranking of the overall business school, and includes the very highly regarded master's in management.)

Hi Ezra,
I can't understand why a program like MIP is in FT ranking while St. Gallen is not (maybe it's too young?).
Employment and salary (not PPP but fresh CHF :-)) ) for people graduating here are outstanding.

I think this is mainly due to the salary increase statistics. For instance, from the FT's data, grads at St. Gallen see about 49% increase in their post-MBA salary, versus 94% at MIP and 106% at HEC.

Although, St. Gallen directly reports that the class of 2010 is seeing more like 60% increase in their salaries - so if the FT uses their statistics, we might see movement in the 2012 rankings.

I think macroeconomics has a lot of influence on the outcomes that drive the rankings. I'd expect these general movements:

Singapore
UK

**Down**
Italy
Netherlands

I'd also bet on

How about Birmingham Business School?
I saw the 2011 Economist MBA Ranking, Birmingham Business School is ranked No. 9 in UK.
It seems that it is a stable Business School. not too good not too bad.

I just saw that Strathclyde has 75% MBA students in 2010-2011 from India from its official website. It is too many. The diversity of a business school is very important.

why 71% find job in UK means an outstanding outcome?
I think as a top business school, the MBA students should be distributed all of the world but with a high position or high salary with their jobs, rather than just work in UK.

I don't think it's an outstanding result, but it would be interesting to compare to previous years. What's *not* outstanding is that the students who don't find work in the UK return to their home countries. Right now the visa rules are pretty favourable in the UK for people who've recently graduated. However, the situation seems to be that for every three Asians who attend Strathclyde, one has to return home. That third has picked up a big debt, and in exchange has missed out on the superior placement opportunities they'd ave through a local school. I think this must be what's pulling them down in the rankings. That one-in-three will, overwhelmingly, have wanted to work abroad, otherwise they would not have gone to the other side of the world.
