Pre-experience masters in the USA

Duncan

US business schools are responding to the demand for masters programmes in management for students who don't want to wait until they have work experience to start their graduate studies in business. On this thread, shall we try to pool our knowledge about ranked business schools with pre-experience programmes? I'll exclude MA programmes which exist as part of PhD programmes and programmes in a single function (like the professional masters in accountancy) unless there's a single MS program with multiple pathways (like at Maryland).

I'll update this post from time to time to add in new schools identified, but I've started off with all the schools in the FT Global MBA 2011 ranking, and a few more.

Different programmes welcome applicants with degrees in business, or only those with degrees in other subjects, or both. Thanks to Ralph for pointing that division out.

*Both business and non-business degrees welcome

Good list, Duncan.

I'd add that some of these programs are specifically for those without any business education experience, so in many cases, if you got your BA in business, you may be out of luck - the Florida program is very particular about this, for instance:

Applicants who are current business majors or have already obtained any degree in business will NOT be considered admissible to this program and should NOT apply.

Although others, like MIT Sloan's master of science in management studies, are geared towards (mainly international) students who already have an MBA or other master's level business degree.

Thanks for this Ralph. I have split my list accordingly.

I didn't include the MIT MSMS because it's not a pre-experience degree. Florida has (wisely) created different MS options for those with, and without, a business degree.

Cool, your list is looking good. I'll keep my eye out for other programs that fit the specs.

I'd still consider adding the Sloan program as well - although they say that work experience is helpful, it's not a mandatory requirement for entry.

Looking at the top 100 or so US business schools, and then focussing on those with SCM as a specialisation, the ten with the youngest students are:
University of South Carolina (Moore) (SC)
Florida State University (FL)
University of Houston (Bauer) (TX)
University of Kentucky (Gatton) (KY)
Pace University (Lubin) (NY)
University of Oklahoma (Price) (OK)
University of Alabama (Manderson) (AL)
University at Buffalo--SUNY (NY)
Clarkson University (NY)
Syracuse University (Whitman) (NY)

The best of these, and the most selective, are Alabama and Syracuse.

Same goes for Rochester their MSc has options for people with MBA.

There is also a new degree from Yale for people with MBA from one of the partners in the consortium

The Rochester MS degrees are aimed at people with little or no work experience. On average, I think the students have around 14 months work experience when they arrive, but they are open to all -- even MBAs.

The Yale masters is not a pre-experience degree. It's an advanced masters for MBAs.
