Hi

The Swedish Universities offer Masters degrees free of cost :)...but there aren't any MBA degrees in offer from any of the reputed institutes (they have EMBAs which of course is not an option for you assuming you are not employed in Sweden). They offer Msc programs and the program websites mention that the courses are aimed towards people with less or no work exp (I primarily checked on Lunds and SSE). For someone with considerable work ex, the Swedish Msc programs might be not be a worthwhile time investment. The tuition fee might be waived but you still need to pay for your stay, travel etc. Another word of caution..Sweden is way too high in taxes.

Between the rest -
I've talked to some Bradford alumni (British) and they are singing praises for their University and I have also been in touch with a big shot in BT who is an alumnus of Bradford. Sounds like Bradford MBA grads are doing well for themselves.

Brimingham is well ranked but haven't talked to any alumni. From their curriculum it seems they are heavily aligned towards finance, which is not what I am looking for.

Glasgow - the avg salary is very low. Probably not so suitable for a 8 yr pro.

In my search for a MBA school this year I've learnt one thing for real - MBA schools in the same tier cannot be marked with a < or > ordering. An individual needs to be fit into a school...and it is purely a call that she needs to take. Each school has its own characteristics - check which ones appeal to you the most...you'll automatically know the answer or at least further shorten the list.

All the best!
Thanks

Susee, I heard back from Bradford on AACSB accreditation today. They are definitely working on it with the AACSB committee.

It is a multi-year process and involves various rounds of mentoring, coaching and auditing.

The representative said that in their estimates they will have it within "12-18 months".

I don't doubt that they will get it - it's just a matter of time.

If you look at EQUIS thought, it is pretty in depth, as it evaluates the entire faculty.

Overall the school looks very promising. I've heard good things about them. I know there are professors here in Canada who have graduated from Bradford.

They may not have the visibility of Oxford, IE, LSE etc - but they are known and growing.

I have my offer, just waiting for some other (non-business) program offers/rejections to come back and then will decide for July

I'd say that between those options your only real choice is between Birmingham and Bradford. Common thinking in terms of rankings, etc. would make Birmingham the winner - however, I think that the Bradford program is more geared toward people with more experience - ie, you.

It's a tough call - have you gotten offers from these schools? If so you should really weigh the offer packages, scholarships, etc.

My big question about your profile is why with 8 years of experience you're not seeking an EMBA? You might get more out of it.

I think somebody mentioned higher in the thread that Swedish MBAs are free - this is, in fact, not true. I don't know where this rumor started, but don't believe it.

Thanks Ralph,

Yes I got offers from these schools.Fees of Brad(19.95K) and Birmingham(17.7K)

As far as scholarships are concerned Bradford don't offer anything but birmingham offers scholarship. Those results will be available by June 1 st week.So may have to wait....

Most EMBAs are offered in the form of 24 month program...I am not interested to spare 2 yrs.

It is true that Sweden offers free education (for this year only) but I kept that as last option...

But Autumn 2011 intake they are going to charge fees for Non EU students...Pl see the web link..

Not sure as I am also interested to know about that. According to the alumni newsletter in Nov 2009, they have been aiming achieve AACSB award in 2009 or likely to be in 2010?

"This year we are aiming to achieve the AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) award, which would give us the coveted triple accreditation of AMBA, Equis and AACSB which few Schools have succeeded in gaining. AACSB International is an association of educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations devoted to the advancement of higher education in management education. Our mentor for this process, Professor Gary Giamartino, who is Dean of School of Business at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will be visiting the School later this month."
