The University

The University prides itself on being an internationally recognised leader in the provision of high quality education and training underpinned by a strong research profile. In the latest international ranking of universities by the respected UK Times, La Trobe was placed 98th in the world, and 23rd in Humanities, 68th in Social Sciences and 86th in Biomedicine.

The main campus of La Trobe University in Melbourne (Bundoora) is situated in spacious parkland and includes a Wildlife Reserve. This metropolitan campus also houses the main research and teaching faculties of the University, including the Research and Development Park , a world renowned library, multi-media facilities and a hospital including student medical services.

Our Melbourne (City) campus offers postgraduate courses in business, law and health sciences. In a move to establish a major presence in Melbourne 's CBD, a new City campus will open in 2008. The new campus will be a hub for teaching and research, offering an expanded range of pathway, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with an emphasis on professional, executive and international studies.

The University also has campuses in regional Victoria, in Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Shepparton, Mildura and Beechworth. This network of campuses provides learning opportunities for students in regional areas, adds diversity to the University, and through programs of regional engagement contributes in significant ways to the development of regional Victoria .

The key objectives of the University are to be an internationally acknowledged centre for teaching, training, scholarship and research and to prepare students for the various needs and challenges of work and society.

The University has a particularly strong commitment to internationalisation and it seeks not only to attract students and staff from all around the world but also to provide opportunities for local students and staff to gain international experience through a scheme of exchange programs. In particular it leads the International Network of Universities which is a consortium of universities specifically designed to promote student mobility. Currently the University has links with some 250 institutions in more than 40 countries.

The Business School

La Trobe University Graduate School of Management has a fast growing international reputation for delivering management courses to students. The programs offered are consistent with our aim to provide courses of high academic standards that are attractive to students, are well taught and relevant to the needs of the market place. As well as being taught at Bundoora, the MBA and related courses are now being taught at the City and Bendigo La Trobe Campuses.

The Program

The MBA is designed to enhance the skills that participants bring to the course in order to increase their potential for creating value in the world of business and/or to meet the priorities of government organisations through effective public administration. It prepares graduates to tackle problems creatively in order to achieve optimum results for the organisation. The MBA is offered in full-time and part-time mode at the Melbourne (Bundoora) and Melbourne (City) campuses and in part-time mode only at the Bendigo campus.

Specifically, the aims and objectives of the course are to provide participants with a rigorous education in the essential techniques of management; to extend this fundamental knowledge into various areas of specialisation and; to achieve a balance between academic rigour and an exposure to the wide variety of experience in commerce, industry and government which is a necessity of modern management.

Entry Requirements

Melbourne

Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree, have at least 2 years work experience, be proficient in the English language and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Applicants who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration elsewhere may receive advanced standing and gain direct entry into the MBA program, subject to certain conditions.
