The University

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) was founded in 1989 with the objective of offering high-quality graduate and undergraduate education and promoting high standards of research. The university attracts a large number of international students and has three modern campuses located in Madrid’s metropolitan area. Carlos III is regarded by employers as one of the top Spanish universities, and is internationally recognized as one of the leading business research institutions in the country.

The Business School

UC3M Campus

The Business School – Department of Business Administration - was founded in 1993 and is responsible for teaching and research activities in all business-related areas: Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing.

The mission of the School is to conduct high quality business-related research publishable in the leading international academic journals; and to provide high quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Program

The Master of Business Administration is a one-year program which was first launched in 1997. It is delivered in English. In 2006 the MBA programme was accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), one of the most important international accrediting bodies and the only with an exclusive focus on MBA programs. There are only six AMBA-accredited programs in Spain.

The mission of the MBA Program is to provide professional business education based on high academic standards. The MBA Program takes advantage of the most relevant business research in order to provide an education that lasts and enables our graduates to pursue fruitful careers upon graduation. Through its curriculum the MBA Program also improves the practical skills and attitudes that are needed to succeed in today’s business world.

The Faculty

The MBA has a total of 44 professors. 93 per cent have a PhD Degree and 95 per cent have a graduate (doctoral or Master’s) degree. Most of the MBA teaching staff has permanent affiliation with the Department of Business Administration, one of Spain’s most selective business education centers. Faculty members of other departments within UC3M and highly-skilled outside professional also contribute to create an exciting learning environment.

External professors provide managerial and industry expertise and come from a variety of professional and academic backgrounds.

The Department is widely recognized as one of the top business research institutions in Spain. Professors are hired from top PhD programmes in Europe and North America and follow a competitive tenure-track process before becoming tenured department members.

Professors who excel in their fields and are truly passionate about teaching are invited to teach at the MBA programme.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

· Bachelor's or equivalent degree and minimum professional experience of 3 to 5 years.
· A very good undergraduate academic record.
· Work experience of at least 3 years.
· A very good knowledge of English.
· Personal qualities. The MBA program looks for candidates with the following qualities: strong interpersonal skills, an interest for multidisciplinary learning, a concern their country’s well-being, and curiosity about other cultures and countries.

GMAT and TOEFL are not required for admission to the MBA Programme. However, they are positively considered towards admission. Students with GMAT or TOEFL scores may send their scores with their application package.

Application Procedure

The application package may be submitted by regular mail, e-mail or fax, and must include the following documents:

· Two letters of recommendation.
· One letter of motivation letter
· Copy of Bachelor's Degree Title
· Copy of the Academic Transcript (copy of the full academic records)
· Copy of Passport.
· Curriculum Vitae with supporting documents.
· Any other relevant information.

Applications are assessed as soon as the documents reach the university. Candidates are informed about rejection or provisional acceptance (pre-admission) in a maximum of three weeks. Pre-admission indicates that the applicant meets the minimum requirements for admission, but does not guarantee final admission. Final admission is given on a competitive basis among all pre-admitted candidates.

Tuition and Fees

Total fees are 12,000 euros, payable in three terms. In case of admission, the applicant is given a deadline to pay a non-refundable reservation fee of 3,000 €

Financial Aid

The MBA program grants a limited number of competitive tuition discounts. Students must formally apply to these discounts upon enrollment. Financial aid is offered in September and the discount is effective in the February payment.

Location

Madrid city centre

The School is in a modern campus located in Getafe, just a short ride from Madrid’s city center. Madrid is not only the political capital of Spain, but is also burgeoning as its economic capital. Many Spanish firms are actively expanding their business to other European Union countries and are also becoming crucial players in Latin America. Most of these firms have their corporate headquarters in Madrid.

Student Life

The city of Madrid is increasingly international and multicultural, not only because of the international business links of Spanish companies, but also because of a large increase in immigration. With approximately 3.5 million inhabitants, Madrid offers an exciting combination of history and modernity in an increasingly multicultural environment. Madrid is art and culture everywhere. Its shows and museums, the street environment, architecture or excellent gastronomy are some of the reasons to discover Madrid.
