The MBA is a programme designed with the needs of the business world and the student in mind. Experience shows that the business world requires enterprising men and women who can take long-term as well as short term view of operations; good at working in teams; can motivate people, keep abreast with events and are quick to learn and innovate. This supplements the Full Time programme and the Executive Programme.

The programme is designed to allow the student to:

(i) Acquire the requisite understanding of the total business world,
(ii) Develop practical skills for effective management, confident in teams and know how to motivate other people
(iii) Assess latest developments and dynamic situations so as to identify opportunities for profitable business.
These directions are translated into a number of ways which allow the student spend his or her time fruitfully.

Admission Requirements
    The programme is open to people with a variety of backgrounds. However, prospective students must satisfy the following minimum requirements:
(a) Have a first or second class honours degree of the University of Dar es Salaam or its equivalent from another approved university or higher learning institution.
(b) Candidates with a pass degree may be considered, if
(i) Their undergraduate performance in the proposed subject of study was a B grade or better;
(ii) They have worked for at least 5 years in an organization
(iii) Their academic potentials established through GMAT or its equivalent, and approved by the Faculty Board.
(c) First class postgraduate diploma or
(d) Recognized professional qualifications (CPA, CSP, ACCA plus Form Six Certificate), with at least 2 years experience after graduation.
Prospective applicants should note that a minimum qualification does not guarantee automatic admission.

Structure of the Programme

The programme is demanding. Learning is intensive and required a lot of independent work on the part of the student. The curriculum is programmed for 7 semesters. A semester is made up of 15 weeks (13 for lectures and seminars, 2 weeks for revision and exams). A student is required to take 3 courses per semester.

Course Evaluation and Examination

(a)Each course will be evaluated by

(a) Continuous assessment of coursework that carries 50% of the final marks.
(b) Examination at the end of each semester, for 50% of the final marks.
(c) The pass marks of each examinable course is a B (50%) or above.


(ii) (b)Other Regulations

(a) a) Candidates failing in not more than 3 units of coursework in any year shall be allowed to sit for supplementary examination.
b) Candidates failing in more than 3 units in any academic year and who has a GPA of 2.7 or above shall be allowed to supplement the failed course, otherwise he/she shall be considered as having failed and therefore shall be discontinued
(a) Candidates who fail supplementary examinations shall be discontinued.
(b)Candidates who fail the coursework shall not be allowed to proceed for research work.
Dissertation
The dissertation is coded MS 699 and it is an independent study done by the student under supervision.

Regulations

(i) Each student shall be allocated a supervisor, with whom the student should have regular contacts during the period of research.
(ii) The proposals, duly signed by both the students and the supervisor should be submitted to the Co-ordinator, FPGS by the end of the first month of Semester 3/6.
(iii) Students shall undertake an applied research in Semester 4/7 and submit, in partial fulfillment of the masters degree requirements, a dissertation of approximately 20,000 words within 15 days after completing semester 4/7.

Degree Award
The MBA degree shall not be awarded until both the course work and the dissertation have been satisfactorily completed.
