The Executive MBA (Project Management) and Postgraduate Diploma (Project Management)
There is an increasing orientation for corporate business process and organisation to revolve around projects. Companies strive to differentiate themselves and reduce delivery cycle time. These changes put project management sharply into focus. The traditional, technical view of project management will not bring about the transformational change that organisations require.
Managers within project orientated organisations require an in depth understanding of organisational management and its relationship to project management. This is what the Henley Executive MBA (Project Management) offers.
The programme builds on Henley's recognised position as a leader in Project Management MBAs. It prepares managers for senior positions in project-orientated organisations. It also helps functional managers develop their project management skills and gain a broader functional and strategic perspective on organisational management.
As with the Executive MBA programme it’s not all theory. There is a strong emphasis on personal development, as well as business teaching.
The programme seeks to:
 | ● | Increase knowledge of project management |
 | ● | Understand the relationship between corporate and project strategy |
 | ● | Increase knowledge of general management principles and techniques |
 | ● | Improve the capacity for effective decision making in a project orientated environment |
 | ● | Apply project management principles to business situations |
 | ● | Attain self confidence as senior managers within project oriented organisations |
Structure and assessment of the programme
The programme commences in September 2008, alongside a Distance Learning MBA programme. It broadly follows the same syllabus but has a specialist project management element at each of the three stages.
Stage One has a specific taught workshop in Project Management Foundations and Processes replacing a general module on Managing Processes Systems & Projects. In Stage Two, a Commercial Project Management module replaces an elective module and at Stage Three an Implementing Strategy through Projects module is studied in place of a Reputation and Relationships module.
Assessment at Stage One requires the submission of assignments for the standard Distance Learning MBA modules and the standard examination. This includes a joint assignment for the two modules Managing People and Performance and Project Management Foundations & Processes. In addition, there will be a specific project management examination question.
At Stage Two the requirement is for the submission of assignments for the standard Distance Learning modules and one additional project management specific assignment. Candidates will sit the standard MBA examinations with no specific project management question being set.
Assessment at Stage Three requires the submission of assignments for the standard Distance Learning MBA modules and one additional project management specific assignment.
The culmination of the Henley MBA (Project Management) is the Management Challenge, a research-based consultancy project that requires students to apply a range of knowledge and skills to a real organisational issue or problem and, through rigorous analysis, generate relevant and practicable solutions or recommendations.
Students have access to the support enjoyed by all distance learning students i.e. HenleyConnect (virtual learning environment, online resources, Learning Resource Centre) and face-to-face as well as a specific Project Management database within HenleyConnect and have the benefit of interacting with students on the general MBA programme.
The Postgraduate Diploma (Project Management)
The Postgraduate Diploma (Project Management) serves as an entry route for managers who have the relevant experience but may not have the necessary academic qualifications to directly join the MBA programme.
The Postgraduate Diploma comprises Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the MBA programme.
The entry requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma are:
 | ● | Three years relevant management experience |
