Welcome to the Fall 2003 Semester!

Degrees

Undergraduate

The Business Division offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Finance, Management, and Marketing. It also offers Associate degrees in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Management, and Marketing.

The courses of study are designed to prepare the students to assume positions in middle and upper management in business and governmental organizations. The programs have been constructed on the assumption that contemporary study in business administration must build upon a broad base of liberal education. The plan of study is intended to develop the students' capacity to make sound judgments in their eventual positions in management and administration and to endow them with the historical perspective necessary for understanding of human values and motivations in and the relationships between economic activity and the society as a whole.

To achieve this objective, the program combines a number of required general business courses with the University of the Virgin Islands general education requirements. By taking these courses students can gain the required background of liberal education and general business knowledge. At the same time it also broadens a liberal education. This program provides additional study in a specialized area of business as well as practical business experience through a supervised work-study internship.

Graduate

The Business Division also offers the masters of Business Administration degree. The MBA Program follows a 36 credit hour curriculum that can be completed in four semesters for a student taking nine credits per semester. However, many students pursue a part time program. It is primarily a general degree that exposes students to courses drawn from the disciplines of management, accounting, finance, information systems and prepares them to fulfill the principal functions of management and provide leadership in a business environment. The credit requirements for graduation may, at the student's option include a thesis.

The Program can be pursued while the student is based on either of the two university campuses, St. Croix or S. Thomas. Most of the courses are done via videoconference to facilitate students on either campus.

Bachelor of Arts in Accounting
This degree attracts the largest percentage of students every year. Many of the graduates go on to write the CPA examination, graduate school or to employment in local, regional and national businesses and governmental organizations.
