The MBA (Executive) program has two entrance pathways:

A bachelor degree in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution and evidence of substantial, relevant work experience. Typically this will consist of at least 5 years experience in a managerial position since completion of an undergraduate degree.
or
(ii) Management + work experience
Entry may be granted to applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree but can demonstrate through professional work experience their capacity to successfully undertake this program. Typically this would consist of at least 8-10 years of business experience, at least 5 of which must have been in a management role.
English Language
All applicants must possess good communication skills in both written and spoken English. All non-Australian residents and overseas full-fee paying students must provide evidence of one of the following:
Note: TOEFL or IELTS results are only recognised for one year from the test date.
The MBA (Executive) is comprised of 8 core courses and 4 electives (144 credit points).
The core courses are designed to provide students with the necessary foundations for business management practice. Students are required to commence the program with Global Business Context and conclude with Implementing Strategy. The following order is strongly recommended:

Core Course Sequencing
Flexibility with the order of some of the functional courses within the core is permissible. For example; BUSM3917 Business and Economic Analysis, BAFI3166 Finance and Accounting for Business Decisions and MKTG1276 Marketing Management can be undertaken in a different order, depending on student qualifications and experience.
However, students are to ensure that BUSM3917 Business and Economic Analysis and BAFI3166 Finance and Accounting for Business Decisions are completed before undertaking either of the Strategy courses.
BUSM3922 Creating Strategy must also be completed before BUSM 3927 Implementing Strategy. It should not be taken concurrently.
Similarly students are advised to ensure that BUSM3907 Leadership and Management is completed before undertaking BUSM3912 Managing People, Relationships and Performance.
Electives
In addition to the 8 core courses, students complete 4 elective courses.
The Graduate School of Business offers a range of electives each semester on a rotational basis. These may be studied individually or grouped to form specialisations in areas such as:
The Graduate School of Business also offers international study intensive tours:
These electives are delivered over 5 days and students assume additional costs associated with travel, accommodation and incidentals.
Note: plans are underway to introduce an additional US study intensive tour from 2009.

A further 4 electives in international management are available online via our partnership with Open Universities Australia:
A key feature of our MBA (Executive) is the provision of a wide range of elective “Majors” offered through other schools at RMIT. In this way the MBA (Executive) offers considerable flexibility to tailor your studies to suit your career plans. Sequences of 4 electives forming a major field of study are available in, but not limited to:
Students with a particular area of interest are welcome to discuss with the School other possible “Major’ study areas which may be available.
Students can also choose to undertake research projects as part of the elective component of their program. In order to do this they must approach the Academic Director with a suitable proposal. Depending on the breadth of the project and the student’s previous research experience, they may be required to undertake a research methods course in addition to the research project.
Course Load
The expected course load for the MBA (Executive) undertaken in part-time mode is two (2) 12 credit point courses per semester.
The normal course load for the MBA (Executive) undertaken in fulltime mode is four (4) 12 credit point courses per semester.
Dropping courses has a serious impact on student ability to complete the program in the defined study period.
It is expected that students confer with the Academic Director and/or the relevant course coordinator prior to withdrawing from any enrolled course
Classes in the MBA (Executive) are designed to ensure that the learning aspect of the course is paramount. Classroom discussion draws strongly from students’ own experience, assignments focus on the practical application of new theory and skills and students are encouraged to become reflective practitioners.
Our facilitated learning approach utilises a variety of educational methods including weekly classes (typically 1½hours), seminars (typically 3 hours), weekend block classes and 5 day intensive courses. Face to face interaction is augmented by online class activity and discussion.
The majority of assessment tasks require students to analyse their own practice and that of their organisation thus ensuring relevance. Depending on the courses selected, your progress will be assessed by a combination of group and individual assignments and examinations. Whilst group assignments are an important component of every course the focus of the assessment is weighted towards individual performance.
We understand that working executives are time poor, therefore our MBA (Executive) has been designed to minimise disruption to your normal work demands and home life.
On successful completion of the 12 MBA courses, students have the option to apply for entry into an approved second Masters program. For example, the Master of Commerce degree can be awarded after completing a further 4 courses.
