The Institute of Business Economy

The Institute of Business Economy, which is affiliated to the Faculty of Business Management, is one of the oldest schools of business in Turkey. This Institute was established in the nineteen fifties as a contemporary and participatory educational institution. The Institute traces its past to 1954 when the academics of business administration and American academics from Harvard Business School came together with some of the most prominent Turkish businessmen like Vehbi Koc and Nejat Eczacibasi to form a contemporary and independent business educational institution that truly represents the cooperation between the university and industry. Here are the aims of the Institute:
·To contribute to the advancement of education in business; for this end, organizing long and short term educational programmes, seminars, and conferences by employing contemporary and effective teaching techniques and tools like computer generated simulations, video presentations, business games, based on case study methods.

· To offer consultancy to the businesses that face problems.
· To gather documents and data about Turkish and foreign business problems and to conduct research in these fields.
· To help with the education of new academics and business executives and to invest in new methods of education.
· Master of Business Administration

· Master of Finance Administration
· Managerial Education
· Human Resources Administration · Tourism and Hotel Management
· Tour Operations and Travel Management
· English Preparatory School (for business administrators)
· Master of Business Administration (evening education, without a thesis).

Other than these programmes, the institute has been cooperating with a number of private and public institutions. This cooperation involves evaluation of performance, on-job training, reorganization, education of the managerial staff and so on. The following are some of the institutions the institute cooperates with: Turkish State Monopolies, the Social Security Office, the Ministry of Transportation, Turkish Airlines, the Ministry of Forestry—Forestry Department, Ziraat Bank, Akbank, Turkish Collieries, Karabük Steelworks, and the Post Office. The Institute organizes faculty and student exchange programmes with Ball State University (USA), Ohio State University (USA), and Salzburg University (Austria).
