What are MBA Programs?

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a postgraduate programs offered by course-work. Within industry, an MBA degree is the most recognised and transportable qualification providing graduates with broad career options.


How are MBA programs different?

While the 12 subject Executive MBA Program is specifically focussed on developing strategic leadership, the 16 subject MBA Program provides a comprehensive business education covering all the core areas of business and offering over 70 majors and sub-majors in accounting, finance, management, marketing and more.

In contrast, the Master of Business (MBus), Master of Management (MM), Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) and Master of Quantitative Finance (MQF) are specialised programs that focus on specific areas of study.

MBA learning goals

Successful MBA graduates will be able to:

  1. Apply core business skills to problem analysis and decision-making.
  2. Develop enhanced work-ready expertise in a selected area of specialisation.
  3. Communicate in a variety of forms across culturally diverse business environments.
  4. Develop strategic responses to current and future issues facing Australian and global business environments.
  5. Use information and business support systems to monitor issues, problems and opportunities affecting business.

The MBA Refresher course is held annually by the UTS: Business Network for postgraduate UTS alumni and current students. The MBA Refresher Course is a 1 day intensive event featuring the latest topics in business management as presented by leading UTS academics and practitioners.

Over 25 years of MBA at UTS

For over 40 years (since 1967) the UTS Business Faculty has been offering quality business programs. We began providing postgraduate programs in 1977 and offered our first MBA in 1980. Sydney's UTS: Graduate School of Business is now one of Australia's largest and most successful business schools, boasting a culturally diverse population of over 3,000 postgraduate students, a world-renowned faculty and alumni in senior executive positions in both Australia and around the globe.



Top ranked in teaching and learning


UTS:Business has been top ranked for teaching and learning by the federal government for 2007 and 2008.

Business, Law and Economics at UTS has again placed in Band A1 and won substantial funding of over $2.9m in the Commonwealth Government's 2008 Learning and Teaching Performance Fund (LTPF). Recent graduates were asked to report on the attainment of Generic Skills, experiences of Good Teaching, their Overall Satisfaction, and if they are in Full-Time Employment or Further Full-Time Study. Other indicators used to determine the rankings were retention and progression rates.

UTS Business, Law and Economics took out the Number 1 place for graduate employment rates (amongst all Sydney based universities) and we were at the top for good teaching and overall graduate satisfaction amongst ATN universities.

This is a significant achievement for UTS Business and recognition of the great quality of our teachers, program staff and support structures.
