Emphasis on Strategic Management

Brno International Business School’s MBA Senior Executive Programme emphasizes the key aspect of successful management of organizations – strategic management. The graduates acquire knowledge necessary not only for strategic management of organizations as a whole, but also for management of key areas – finance, marketing and sales, human resources, production and logistics, information technologies, etc.

Form And Organization of Study with Respect to Students’ Time Availability

The fact that most students of the MBA Senior Executive Programme have limited time availability is reflected in the course organization. The course is organized as a combination of part-time and full-time study. Teaching blocks are scheduled for weekends, on average one block per month. The remaining part of the course consists in self-study and consultation with lecturers as necessary, either face to face or in an electronic form. The course follows a long-term fixed schedule thus enabling students to plan ahead and co-ordinate their study with their job.

The study extends over a period of two and a half years; however, students may adjust its length and adapt it to their own possibilities (to extend or even shorten the study).

Practical Orientation of the Course

In terms of content, each model is designed to provide a maximum synergy between theoretical knowledge and practical experience. This is achieved through a combination of theoretical lectures given by lecturers with students’ controlled, independent assignments and with the strongly interactive nature of lectures; all this enables the students to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

An important aspect of the study is the emphasis on solving real-life problems selected by the students themselves using examples from their own businesses and organizations. Students bring their businesses and organizations into the course. In the course of their study they acquire key theoretical knowledge and with the support of qualified lecturers – consultants – they can search for solutions to real work-life problems. In its nature, co-operation with lecturers is therefore similar a consulting centre. Consultations may be given to a group of students, to an individual or via electronic communication, depending on the students’ choice.

Development of students’ key personal skills – presentation and reasoning skills, teamwork, negotiation skills and others – is emphasized, as well.

Selecting a Specialization

Besides the universal MBA Senior Executive Programme, Brno International Business School also offers to its MBA students a specialized MBA programme Senior Executive for IS/IT Specialists Route designed for managers in the field of business information systems (information technologies).

Combining the Czech and the English Language

MBA Senior Executive Programme lectures are given in the Czech language, enabling students with little or passive knowledge of English to enrol in the programme. At least passive knowledge of English is required in the second and third year of study as students work on so-called assignments (partial written papers) and on a final dissertation paper in English.

Students, whose command of English is insufficient, may focus on language study during the first year. For those interested we can arrange adequate language programmes in the Czech Republic or abroad (especially in Great Britain – in Nottingham) through co-operation with partner language schools.

A Chance to Achieve a “Leaving Award”

Students who fail to complete the whole programme may be granted a so-called “Leaving Award” – a diploma for the successfully completed part of the study. The certificates and diplomas are issued by The Nottingham Trent University in Great Britain on the basis of the validation contract in all three stages of the study.
