thanks a lot Nes, for your words and sharing your indepth insights.
somehow i feel bath is also a very reputed and good MBA program...although not triple accredited. I have seen it is ahead of all of the rest in economist rankings and gives very good salaries and growth....would it be good to consider joining BATH...??...what is your opinion in terms of salary, location and global recognition for BATH MBA ??

You are right...EIU does rank Bath very highly...
Increase in salary - rank 8
Post-graduation salary - rank 11
Final salary - rank 14

FT is not not that magnanimous though:
Career progress rank 49
Employed at three months (%) 81 ( 77)
Placement success rank 95

I cant comment on Bath to such details since I didnt apply to Bath. A good idea would be to wait for comments from other members.

Hi Friends,

I got a conditional offer from Nottingham University Business School..
However i am in a kind of dilemma, whether shall i for this School..
Since Investment would be around 20Lacs (INR) and my major concern is for Return on Investment.
So can anyone have any idea about campus placements and list of companies recruit students from this business school. Moreover what is the lowest salary package and placement percentage specially for this 2009 passing out batch.

Guys ur valuable suggestion is requested.

Thanks,

How come you decided to apply to Nottingham without knowing these facts at the first place?

I have an idea that there average package is about $99000 and placement percent is around 90%.
But I have collected this data from Internet only, authentication is again suspicious.
So if any one himself or his/her friend doing course from the business school can tell us the exact situation. For that purpose i am here to know more about the actual fact rather than the manipulated one..
Anyone there who can help me out?

By July end most B Schools finalize their intake for the fall intake of that academic year. Warwick has already sent out their visa letters to all international students for the MBA09 and MSc09 Intake.

Normally 6 weeks is what the B Schools give as a waiting time to the offer holders (unconditional only)...but a B School like Strathclyde unofficially extends it to around 2 months provided you get an early admit! Durham on the other week is very strict with pay deadline and will with draw the offer if mayment is not done within deadline.

Getting an offer in Bradford might be easy since is not that great school and asks around 4000gbp as deposit hence most of the students back out but Durham is a top class B School and getting a place at the end of June will be very difficult for Sept/Oct of the same year.

He i am kind of totally new to this forum so a short introduction 1st of all.

i am an ACCA working as managment accountant
work exp 3+ yrs

I got offers from Manchester, Bradford , Leeds & Lancaster but really cant decide what to do ?
bradford & leeds are best because of my location.
Lancaster comes on top because of VFM as well as recognition.
Manchester's recent slide in FT ranking kinda put me off but again cant ignore their triple accredation as well as International networking and perception of their b school.
Plus i am more inclined towards EMBA because of work commitments etc so dnt know if that matters ?

i would like some comments on above plzzz .

thanks in advance.

I have to decide between Bath and Aston and I am not sure which one I should choose. I have around 7 years work experience and a MSC in Management and Investment. Bath seems to have the more experienced students (average age of 33) and has been in rankings for years (especially in FT rankings). The Aston MBA seems to have a real good reputation and is an increasing school. Any ideas?

Who has better links to industry, Bath or Aston? How difficult is it to find a company for the final project/consultancy work? I am not from the UK, so how is the reputation of Aston in real life?

Any answers?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Degrees from Nottingham Uni and Sheffield are highly regarded in the UK as they are Russell Group Universities. Also both are THES top 100 uni's so that would enhance your international opportunities due to brand awareness. The problem with Sheffield, although it is excellent in areas such as engineering, in terms of business education it doesnt really ring a bell, and the city, not very nice. On the other hand, Nottingham's B'school does have a name in business education and is a common destination and good choice for MBA programmes. Also the Uni and city are quite nice. Then Bradford, I really dont like repeating myself, but you can read my other posts about it (by all means, I would leave that option out). So in your case i would choose Nottingham.
But i have the folowing question, did you look or apply to schools such as Leeds, Birmingham or Durham? because these I believe are in a similar category (slightly better) as Nottingham and not only are world class universities, but their bschools are also very well known and regarded in Europe. If you haven't, think about it, because if you are good, almost any MBA programme will fit you in, even if the application dates are already due.
I hope this is useful.

Hey,

Thank you so much for ur inputs.

I have first class allthrough, but since i am applying so late, most of universities have put me in waiting list. thay have said by sep 1st week they will confirm and if they don't get back i must assume there is no place...this is what with Strathclyde, Aston, Edinburg...etc... b ut Birmingham did not get back to me yet... Durham was full by the time i tried..so finally I am with these 3 options only..

Considering all this i can't wait further....but i found the course for Nottingham very nice and efective ..even for Bradford the same..whether it is HR or Finance specialization...but I heard that Bradford place is not that same religious wise..for hindus...dunno just heart (no offence)..do anyone have any idea abt that??

Hi,
Nottingham is the one I would recommend. I searched through a lot of forums and talked to a lot of people and none of them mentioned anything negative about that MBA programme, compared to the other 2 universities of your list. Furthermore I have learned that (same like me) this decision is nothing you can make a real mistake for your further career, because all your MBA programmes playing in the same league (its not like LBS vs Birmingham).

Just focus on a few categories (high level), which seems to be important for you and then let your gut instinct do the rest.

I allready made my decision and it seems to be a good one. To know if it was right right, I will see it in a few years.

Maybe helpful,

best wishes

What do you think about my choice?
Thank you very much!

Actually I think you should not only care about the rankings. Some universities have good rankings but when you visit the campus in person you may find out the whole environment is not as good as you imagined.
Besides, I thind Nottingham University is totally a "ganster". They do lots of indecent behaviours to raise more illegal money. Also, the Nottingham city is dirty full of wierd people. It has the highest criminal rate and compared with other cities in England.
I don't think Nottingham University deserves its honor. In fact its substance is quite rotten.

Hi Yagna, there isn't much difference between these business schools..speially in terms of uni rankings glasgow and nottingham got good reputation but i am sure bradford/aston alot better in terms of mba. i will go for bradford if u r not too loaded and not intending to spend too much on living etc..lol plus its staff is really good as i have been to couple of mba evenings and also u get automatic qualification for HSMP ( as bradford is one of the business school on list).

I thought the HSMP list is history now. Students can apply for a post MBA work permit and would be granted a visa based on their individual merit. The university advantage in this regard is gone now.
Bradford is hence on equal grounds when it comes to work permits.

Hi,
You are right, HSMP list is not there anymore. There is new visa system (Read About Tier Visas). Generally, you would get PSW for 2 years after your MBA.
In terms of college, Glasgow, well not really. The ideal choice is between Aston and Bradford. I had some reasons of not going to Bradford which i mentioned on one of the earlier posts last year. But it comes down to one, Bradford has consistent decline in its rankings since last 3 years, whereas Aston has managed to hold on to its ranking, and has improved this year.

It was this particular reason, combined with the city of Birmingham that i chose to came here. So well, that would be my choice.

You could PM me with ur mail address or any specific queries and will try to respond back soon, but not really sure as I am understanding now how hectic one year MBA is :)

Enjoy.
