Tue Mar 17, 2009 06:57 AM Hello again..I already have 2 unconditional offers for these Business Schools: Hi again, According to me for MSc course(s) your priority order should be: Manchester, Cranfield, Strathclyde, Durham, Aston, King's, Exeter. If you are waiting for more than 2.5-3 months for decision from MBS, Cranfield-SOM, Strath-GSB etc. you SHOULD accept Durham/Aston to be on the safe side but plz understand that there would be no refunds if you wish to back off... All the best. --Nes --- [Edited by nblueblaze on 17 Mar 2009] |

Wed Mar 18, 2009 05:24 AM Thank you Nes! What did you decide finally?Because your posts are deleted.. You are welcome... I myself deleted the posts...out of anxiety (and partly out of ecstasy) I posted the status of my application to different B Schools...but later when I looked back at those posts, I felt that I am a stupid dork blaring his own horn!!!! I deleted those posts and kept the only posts of mine which helped/will help other aspirants. By the way, I decided to accept Warwick. Reason - high reputation, close to both Birmingham & London and excellent student support service. I am least concern about other B Schools but till today I regret ditching Cranfield-SOM offer since I specifically told in the interview that given an offer I would choose Cranfield though its located in the middle of nowhere...I truly feel bad and wish i didnt make that promise/statement. Sincerely hoping that I made a good choice by opting for Warwick. --Nes --- [Edited by nblueblaze on 18 Mar 2009] |

To Osrat & George: Thanks for your wishes...Indeed the reputation and the location tilted my preference towards Warwick. Thu Mar 19, 2009 05:26 AM ------------------------------------- George, Regarding Cranfield-SOM, apart from LSE, LBS, Warwick, Cass and Asridge no other B School in UK can ever compete with Cranfield...its regarded a top B School in the world...only the best gets admission...if you get a call grab it! I applied for the MSc Strategic Marketing... Regarding your case since you are interested in International Management, Manchester is the best among the schools that you have applied to. All the best, buddy! --Nes --- [Edited by nblueblaze on 19 Mar 2009] |

Hi, can someone tell me abt Durham's reputation for its management course...The website calls the course MA management and not Msc Management and FT boasts really good abt the school---no.2 in UK for return on investment...Sat Jun 06, 2009 04:23 PM Is it really famous with recruiters? and is the avg pay 47000 dollars per annum? |

Durham is good..as an University very highly respected and B School well known in the UK...Nobody can actually authenticate the pay package...but all I can say is that Durham indeed is a high return on investment since living costs are incredibly low!!Sat Jun 06, 2009 06:21 PM _Nes --- |

To Jasy08Wed Jul 22, 2009 11:43 PM In anything but marketing I would say Durham. The problem is that Aston has G. Hooley and J.Saunders as professors (if you know about marketing you should know who they are), and that's a big incentive. Aston would be stronger in that area. However, I would take a look at Warwick's MSc in Strategy & Marketing (N.Piercy is a lecturer there) and also Birmingham's MSc in Strategic Marketing & Consulting (M.Kyrkup is the programme director there)...All these west midlands schools have very big names in marketing...Cranfield also is very good, but the brand is too limited to the UK... I know that application dates are due in most cases, but almost any school will fit you in if they really like you...so, maybe you should take a second look... Cheers [Edited by add on 22 Jul 2009] |

The only schools that gave me admission were Aston & Bradford, still thinking about bothThu Jul 23, 2009 10:06 AM Cranfield rejected my application with 3 days, that really hurt me as that was my dream school But now I'm glad they did,as I'm not sure I'd like Marketing much. |

Now what uni will be best for my career. OK, I didn't know you applied to so much uni's, you got a strange mix here...just based on rankings and general awareness on b' schools I would leave newcastle, queen mary (good at law), leicester and aberdeen out...Thu Jul 23, 2009 01:25 PM Bham, aston, lancaster and bradford are all regraded as world class b'schools (although I believe bradford is on its way out) so these should have a positive impact on your career, in terms of opening doors, because in the end, it depends on you. Regarding marketing programmes, lancaster has a very good one, its a an MSc in advanced mktg management, but i'm not clear if you got an offer from this one or the Msc in mktg and management. LUMS is a top business school, and the university is rather new (1960s), stiil good, but its not a global top 100 university (check THES and World academic rankings). Birmingham's MSc in strategic mktg and consulting is an excellent programme and its directed by Malcolm Kyrkup (former Lancaster MBA director) and as it has a consulting focus, there is strong relations with industry as placements begin half way the programme. The B'school is also is in the FT and Economist MBA rankings and the University is a global top 100. This is something to take into account, as many employers have more knowledge about good uni's than good b'schools. But again, I'm not clear if you applied to this programme, but i believe you could ask for it if you already got into and MSc there. Aston, as said before, has some pretty good lecturers, but the downturn is that Uni isn't that prestigous and the place is not very nice, doesnt even look like a uni. It gets worse when you see the great facilities and campus that Birmingham has to offer, which also enjoys much higher general prestige in the UK. Durham, is an excellent B'school and Uni, highly regarded in the UK and the place is so nice, you'll have a great study environment. But my perception is that it isn't strong on marketing, and it has had some image problems following the expulsion of the school's former director due to plagiarism charges. Regarding Bradford, I feel there is an overrated perception among applicants due to the good performance of the managment school in the past, when there was less competition. The truth is, it belongs to a terrible uni, and their performance in rankings in a 5 year measurement just indicates that they are probably on their way out. And seriously, that is not a place to study and live for a whole year. I would say Lancaster and Birmingham are the best options in your case. But maybe you would like to hear some other opinions and do further research. Cheers, |
