Good evening,

I'm from greece aged 26,with only 2y experience...

good news:
-- ielts score-8,hold degrees in italian and spanish (and cpe in english),
-- stayed abroad for more than a year(international arpoach)
--i work in a major greek pharmaceutical company in the supply sector
--military service in special forces (dont know if thats an asset though)

bad news:
--gmat 610 (i'll retake it in a month)
--only 2 years of work exp. by sept2009
--studied economics with a degree 6,51/10

if you were responsible for admissions in a university ranging from lbs to bocconi and hec what would you think about my prospects?
thank you a lot for any advice!!!!

Hi,

In some schools they count the military service as work experience. The best you can do if to drop them an email with this information and get an answer from them.

In my opinion you are OK for middle tier schools but for top tier schools you need to improve GMAT and you GPA is also low now you cant do any thing about it, get some good work experience and mean while improve on you GMAT. good luck

i wouldn't say you are too young, but i agree with happy, you should try to get a higher GMAT score. that being said, i think you will be an interesting candidate for Business schools - your background is interesting and not typical, and Good Business schools are looking for this kind of people!

your military service in the special forces is IMO a good experience - one learns to work in a team, tackling difficult situations. it is all in how you asses/describe it in your interview/application.

thank you all very much for your responses!!

im aware of the necessity to retake the gmat...its on schedule, it's just that i thought there was no way to be accepted if u didnt have at least 5 years of xp.....

of course people say these days that it would be better to hold on to your current job rather than venturing with less possibilities to find a job after graduation....thats a field were u dont know who to believe....the b.schools say ''everything is ok with job prospects''....news say the opposite...

in the end i think positive thoughts is what is needed

thanx again a lot

most places that i've looked at only require 2 or 3 years work experience... I have similar credentials to you and haven't gotten rejected from anywhere yet.. have gotten three acceptances -- all from schools ranked between 50 and 100 in the Financial Times rankings. I have only applied to one really highly ranked school so far and I haven't heard back yet.

i have 2.5 yrs work experience; a 610 gmat, and a 3.4/4 grade point average (not sure how that compares to yours.)

As for "too young".. definitely not. 26-27 is about the average age you typically see on the school profiles. Go to businessweek.com and read their profiles.

Update: Heard back from that top ranked school... .they told me to try again in 2010 after I have more work experience!! It says on their Web site that 2 years is the minimum, but their admissions officer told me it was a very competitive year, and that's why they were looking for more experience this time around...
