University of Liverpool or Wales?
Hello All,Thu Mar 05, 2009 07:42 AM Which do you think offers a more recognized MBA online; Liverpool or Wales (Robert Kennedy College)? Which would you choose? Thank you so much! |

I assume you are talking about distance learning.Sat Mar 07, 2009 10:36 AM I didn't know Kennedy exists before reading your post. in my opinion University of Wales doesn't sound too good on your resume. I think there are too many private education providers that are entitled to award Wales degrees. I don't know how Wales can assure high quality standards under these circumstances. The Liverpool online MBA is run in cooperation with Laureate (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laureate_Education). They look like a solid company with some years of experience. "University of Liverpool" sounds like something real (to me). Their business school also offers taught MBA courses. None of the programs is accredited by AACSB, AMBA or Equis, but Liverpool has an accreditation by EFMD while Kenney does not seem to have any international acreditation. Liverpool's program is much bigger. They enrol 1,800 students compared to Kenney's 670. www.ft.com/cms/cdb1eee8-f4e9-11dc-a21b-000077b0765… That being said, I have to make clear that don't have any first-hand information about the quality of the courses offered. Malia,Sat Mar 07, 2009 10:54 AM Thank you for taking the time to respond. I have done extensive research into both and was gearing towards Liverpool, but I am concerned because they are not accredited by any of the 3 major accreditation bodies, as you indicated. I didn't find much information on EFMD-Cel, apart from what appeared on their website. Another concern is that University of Liverpool does not have exams per say, they have assignments weekly and the entire program is online. I was hoping for something that I would be required to be on campus even 2 weeks out of the entire program. I have been intouch with Laureate and if the attitude of the admissions advisor was the determining factor, then I would choose the University of Liverpool in a heartbeat. She is the sweetest, nicest and most accommodating and helpful person I have come across in a long time. Anyway, I am very excited about starting my MBA; I have put it off for so long and now I think the MBA "bug" has bitten me:) Let me ask one final question; if money wasn't an issue, which distance learning (yes, you assumed right) program would you choose? Thanks again, I really appreciate all you help. |

......."I think there are too many private education providers that are entitled to award Wales degrees. I don't know how Wales can assure high quality standards under these circumstances."Mon Mar 09, 2009 02:04 PM I agree, this is never a sign of quality. If money wasn't an issue i will go for the IE Business school online program. it's a highly ranked school, and the program structure looks pretty good to me. www.gmba-eng.ie.edu/program.php |

In my opinion, IE, Imperial and Warwick are the top distance learning MBA choices in Europe.

Find that I'm in similar position as well!, as stated UOL help/support appears very good compared to some of the others listed on the 2008 Distance learning spreadsheet, have reviewed mainly UK based ones and noticable different is actual cost with UOL leading the way here! In addition I'm also a concerned about the accrediation issue, how importnat is this, (AACSB, AMBA etc), also looking strongly at Heriot (by far most popular on line), Henley, Warwick and Durham, (I am really in the need of full flexibility as I live in HK and would only want to justify trip 1/year to UK (without seeing friends/family).

Tue Mar 24, 2009 12:50 PM I'm also a concerned about the accrediation issue, how importnat is this, (AACSB, AMBA etc), it is very important - i would only look into programs having at least one of the three important ones - AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS) or better yet, all of them!(the triple crown, as it is called) [Edited by Oshrat.H on 24 Mar 2009] |
