MBA or MS IT for 5 yrs exp Architect?
Hi All,Mon Oct 06, 2008 02:49 PM I do hope someone replies to my query. I am a Design Architect with 5 years experience in the Telecoms Domain. Currently working in the UK since 3 years. Planning to now pursue my Masters. My doubt is, given my experience and extensive experience in Communications and Client management, should I opt for MBA or MS in Business? Also, I know that MSB and AGSM are the top for MBAs. Apart from these what would be best for an experienced professional? What about MS in Business? Lastly, can I be optimistic on getting a job post my Masters? I ask this because I will be investing most of our savings into pursuing my degree. My wife and I plan to settle down in Australia itself. So a good degree from a reputed college in Aus is what I am looking out for. Many thanks |

Hi there - So I'm the last guy to be giving any kind of guidance on what to do with life savings, but here goes...I'd say with your experience, you should go for an MBA. This will probably open more doors than an MS - at least this is the case in most places outside of Australia. Mon Oct 06, 2008 08:39 PM About which schools in Australia - good question. There was just a discussion thread here on Australian programs, so you might want to check that out for some ideas. But since you're settling in Australia, or planning to, you just need to find a school that has a solid national reputation. You don't need to worry too much about international recognition, and this should give you more choices. Best of luck. Evan |

MBA or MS IT for 5 yrs exp Architect?
Hey Evan,Mon Oct 06, 2008 09:27 PM Thanks for the info. I am considering colleges with national repute only but the million dollar question is, who knows which is the best one in Oz? Im currently looking at RMIT, ANU or Monash with an inclination to ANU. I think its better to settle in an area thats still a suburb or, more specifically, yet to be developed and exploited. This would give me more opportunities and options. My pockets are not deep so prefer an inexpensive MBA option. How is the work situation in Aus? A decent job available for a guy with an MBA and 5 yrs exp? Of course I need to pull my socks and network well. Any ideas guys? Cheers Ken |

Tue Oct 07, 2008 10:40 AM Hi All, Hi. I can't say I know too much about Oz myself but there are a couple of interesting threads on the board which might be of interest to you: 1) www.find-mba.com/board/4552 2) www.find-mba.com/board/6306/ Check out what LaVoz de Galicia in particular has to say on the issue - he (?) seems to know what he's talking about. |
