MBA in luxury brand management...HELPPP
Fri Mar 19, 2010 04:56 AM Hi everyone, Hi! I just happened to see your post and was wondering if i could get some help from you. For a little personal brief, im currently working in India with a design solutions firm, and have a work experience of 1.5 yrs (will be 2 in july). Also I've done fashion merchandising for my graduation. Im very keen on working with a luxury brand (brand mgt.), and wanted to do an MBA for the same from ESSEC or INSEAD or basically any good European or American university with the right industry contacts. But i feel i still have at least 2 more yrs of work-ex to work on, before an MBA, so i was just curious(as you'd mentioned Salvatore Ferragamo) about your profile. Im sorry if im prying, but I just wanted to know how you got to Ferragamo, and what you do there... as work experience from a luxury brand would be a real positive. I'd be very obliged if i could get your help. |

Hey Everyone!!Thu May 13, 2010 03:49 PM All the replies that are being posted were of great help! Seems like Essec B School is on the top of everyone's list, many seem to be eyeing on it (including me!) :-) Firstly, can anyone please let me know whether they want any work exp in the luxury sector or anything else will do. Everyone seems to be switching from one field to the other. Will that make sense during the admn procedure & interviews? Secondly, i just finshed my final year in uni and wil graduate in july. Was thinking of working with a luxury brand before applying for next year, will that much of experience ensure that i get through? Coz apparently, it's not been mentioned in the school website that 3 yrs min exp is mandatory.. they've just mentioned "any past exp or internships(if any)" in the admn requirements section....anyway i would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this ...i reallly need to sort this out before i graduate!!!! :-) |

I would consider HEC Paris. They have partnered with a business school in South Korea and are offering Executive Education programs in luxury management.Fri May 14, 2010 03:38 PM |

Tue Jul 13, 2010 09:25 PM I would consider HEC Paris. Hi, I'm currently a student at HEC and I second that. To me, anyone seriously looking at a good degree in Luxury Brand Management should consider mainly ESSEC and HEC. (I'll obviously write more about HEC as I'm better informed about it.) Why? 1) Because these two institutions are so prestigious in France that it can open many doors. In France everybody has heard of HEC, and many have heard of ESSEC. Skema and IUM are never heard of. It is important to think about it because it means that when the Luxury Club tries to organise a visit of LV's flagship store, the LV staff is responsive ;) 2) Because location matters. Being located in Paris (or close to Paris), these two institutions allow their students to discover a lot of what Luxury is. Hey, all you need is to walk around the city during the week end. 3) Because these two programmes are just the most qualified. ESSEC has had their Luxury programme for over a decade now and they are recognised in the industry. HEC has started a Luxury certificate this year (www.hec.edu/Certificates/Luxury-Strategies/About-t…) and it has been able to attract amazing teachers (as an example, one teacher use to be the CEO of LV, and another one was VP at Hermès reporting to the CEO). Please note that these are teachers, not just one-off seminars. These people can teach luxury as they lived it for years and are open to discuss the student's projects. |

Hi Bianca,Wed Jul 14, 2010 05:37 AM Thanks for letting us know about the HEC certificate courses, I only knew about the MSc and MBA programs till now. I've pretty much read everything about the program(luxury strategies) by now. Just one problem, I couldn't find the fees and financial aid section. Also, they haven't mentioned the time period of the prog, I was even thinking of downloading the brochure online, but there is no such facility provided. If you do have any idea about this, please feel free to post your comments. [Edited by rhea3003 on 14 Jul 2010] |

The Luxury certificate is a 3 months specialisation offered to their MBA and MSc.Wed Jul 14, 2010 09:33 AM So you'll have to apply to either MSc or MBA and pay their respective fees. The fee for the HEC MBA is 45keur. www.mba.hec.edu/Admissions/Financing In the MBA curriculum, it is available only to the September intake and comes during the 1st personalisation phase of the MBA (www.mba.hec.edu/Academics/Curriculum-Design) where people can basically choose to take a certificate programme instead of electives. In my class, once we had started our classes in the MBA, we could apply to various certificates (www.hec.edu/Certificates) which allow students to specialise in areas that are of interest. As an MBA students, I didn't follow the Luxury certificate but could take some classes with the three faculty experts mentionned in the website and I thought they were awesome. heyy Rhea and Bianca! i was going through your posts and am really interested in taking up the certificate course at HEC. Fri Nov 05, 2010 10:12 AM i also have been doing a lot of research lately and have gathered that Emlyon Bussiness school is also a great option for the same. its not a certificate course and is very specific to the subjects we would like to learn. Also about the certificate course, will it be enough to land up a job at a good luxury brand since its just a 3 month course! No doubt the faculty is really impressive but is it worth it ? |

No doubt the faculty is really impressive but is it worth it ?The luxury certificate is delivered as part of either an MSc or MBA program at HEC. The studies last at least a year (for MSc) to 16 months (for MBA). Consider that you do an MSc with a specialisation in Luxury. This is of course a very good value proposition for luxury companies. Being a student of the HEC MBA, I can assure you that the school has all the right contacts in the luxury industry. It's not only the teachers, but a whole with a great dynamic for this sector. At the MBA, the Luxury Club is very active and organises corporate visits to luxury companies. Many students (of MBA and MSc) nailed internships/jobs at luxury big names (Hermès, Gucci, LVMH, L'Oréal). [Edited by bianca on 05 Nov 2010] |

Hi all.Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:11 AM Thank you very much for such an informative session. I am also currently in a decision phase. Now I learn a little bit more about HEC and ESSEC... Since Bianca's provided us with the information about luxury management program at HEC.... I was wondering if there's anyone who knows details about luxury management program at ESSEC. I've checked out polimoda in Florence as well... and it looks like a great program! But they do not require a GMAT or any crazy requirement like the normal MBA programs so it's giving me a second thought. But they seem to have very good connections with all the european luxury companies. Please help us if you know anymore detailed information about these schools. Thank you! |

The ESSEC MBA in Luxury Brand Management is probably the most comprehensive specialised MBA programme that you will find on the market - I worked there for 3 years, and can vouch for the quality of the curriculum, the selection of participants, and the alumni network. Ideally you should have five to seven years work experience to benefit from all facets of the programme - most MBAs are designed to encourage the cross-sharing of experience between participants; prior experience of the luxury sector is not compulsory - what is important is to bring a certain expertise (for example having experience in retail, or supply-chains, or intellectual property /trademark, sourcing ... ) that will make your profile attractive to the luxury sector. Do check the website and in particular, the CV book of the current/past participants that you can easily download, to give you an idea of the type of participants. Most interesting for this MBA programme is the extensive alumni network as very early on there were participants from Asia - Japan, China, Korea, India - as well as the Americas and Europe. Mon Jan 10, 2011 03:50 PM Good luck on your MBA in Luxury Brand Management search , Isabelle |

When Francoise says that ESSEC is the *only* luxury MBA in the world, that's not quite right. Even on this site you can find ten (www.find-mba.com/search).
