Hi pankajasn

How much weightage is given to work exp depends on the quality of your experience in the past two years and how you present them in your application.

Cardiff, salford, coventry business schools may not belong to the top two leagues business school in the country.

Feel free to find some of my earlier experience in Switzerland, China, Hong Kong and Singapore at my blog and email me if you need some help for your application.

Good luck.

Kind regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

"Cardiff, salford, coventry business schools may not belong to the top two leagues business school in the country."

You often talk about Fisrt and Second Tiers, so does it mean those are not included in it?
What about ULMS (Liverpool)?

If you are trying to find the best ranking business schools, it makes sense to start by looking at the Financial Times European ranking system:

rankings.ft.com/european-business-school-rankings

Then I would look under each of the schools that you are interested in here:
www.find-mba.com/england

and see what comments people have made about them.

Hi Samya,

I can't say I know too much about the Business School - although I notice it's being heavily advertised on the net at the moment - but I was a student at the University of Liverpool myself from 1997-2000. I did well academically, so I've not had problems getting work afterwards (although I didn't study business there, so I can't really much about that, either).

At the time I was looking around trying to decide which university to go to, I had a few offers from a number of ostensibly better ones - King's College London, UCL, Durham, Edinburgh, to give just a few examples, had all given me what amounted to a free pass, an A level grade offer of EE.

I was all set to go to UCL, until I went up to Liverpool for an open day, just for the hell of it. It was a cold, wet day and the city was hardly looking its best (a quick note here: Liverpool is actually one of the coldest, wettest, windiest cities in the UK). Even so, I was so impressed with the place and the people I met that chose to go there anyway. I never regretted that decision. I've lived in London, Washington DC and Berlin, but although it's not a capital city, and in may ways hardly compares with one, I'd still choose Liverpool over any number of cities - particularly in the UK - as a place to live and study. There's something incredibly singular about it which you can't really appreciate unless you've spent time there. It's a city with a lot of social problems, but that's part of what makes it what it is.

As for the campus: the University of Liverpool's campus is right in the centre of the city, with all the various departments and libraries packed into a square mile or so in a mixture of amazing old buildings, squares and terraces, alongside much newer ones. The Student Union is the largest of any in the country, and located in the middle of the campus. Liverpool has a number of other universities and schools - John Moores and the Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts spring to mind, so its a very student friendly city, with a lot going on. Also, the student body is really internationally diverse, and the cost of living is substantially lower than lots of other places.

Forget the Beatles kitsch- that was a long time ago, and the city is a different place. Having said that, it is quite fun to take the 'Magical Mystery Tour Bus' to Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields with lots of awestruck Japanese tourists. Ignore all the bullshit about 'Europan Capital of Culture 20008'; that's just a PR exercise, the intended result of which is to turn Liverpool into as boring, soft, and corporate a city as any other. Fortunately, Liverpool's natural resistance to London-based government should ensure it doesn't go down without a fight. And if you really, really must you can hope a train to Britain's third city (I'd say it was really the second; Birmingham is a joke), Manchester, which is only a few miles away.

Forgot to say: there should be absolutely no problem with working in the UK afterwards. I have loads of Indian friends, some of whom did MBAs and LLBs after graduating from Oxford, and all stayed on.

Oh, and re. Coventry. See my comments and multiply by a million. Possibly one of the bleakest, ugliest, dispiriting cultural backwaters on earth. You' be much better off at nearby Warwick or Birmingham, although Warwick is a campus university situated all by itself, and Birmingham.....well, I once asked someone who'd grown up there what was good about Birmingham. The answer: "Um......it's got good....er.....shopping?"

Personally, I'd doubt even that.

Yep, it's UK city bashing day here on find-mba.com, with your host, lukeh!

Hi Fox,

Regarding your question - what are the top 2 legues universities in England (or more in general, in Europe)?

I believe lukeh has already given you a very good start by advising you to look at the Financial Time Ranking of European business school. This is also the list I like the most, among other rankings.

I have also made used of the list for my personal studying last time. Because I was looking for an opportunity to study in a German-speaking region, I sorted the list based on country, then realise my choices are: INSEAD (#3), IMD (#4), St Gallen (#25) and Mannheim (#31). I did not consider universities that are not in the to 50 in Europe.

In the end, I consider the pros and cons, school fees, durations and such matter and gained a sponsorship to study in one of the above business school.

Good luck to you!

Kind regards,
Thomas
