MBA with little work experience

jspace12 Joined: 15 Jun 2008 Posts: 6	MBA with little work experience Mon Jun 16, 2008 06:55 PM hi, i am a law graduate holding a B.A.,LL.B (hons) degree. Wish to pursue an MBA from canada. I have a decent GMAT score of 710.However i do not have much work experience (six months since graduation). Can someone guide me about B- schools admitting students with little work experience. also how difficult it is for a law graduate to seek admission to a reputed business school. any help will be highly appreciated......cheers !!!!

lukeh Joined: 24 Oct 2007 Posts: 384	MBA with little work experience Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:13 AM Hi, there have been lots of debates about work experience on the board recently, so I would have a look at this postings. Basically, I think that work experience is extremely important to the majority of business schools. You can see this by looking at the average age of their admissions. The average number of years of full-time work experience has risen dramatically for a lot of the top Business schools. Schools that only recently averaged two or three years now average five. Take a top business school like Wharton, last year only 2% of successful applicants had less than 2 years experience. You dont want to end up choosing a much less reputable school, just because of the work experience issue. Are you not eager to gain some more experience first?

Work for another one and half year and start researching for the best options for your MBA already now. You can find programs without that requirement, but It is worth waiting, because the good schools are stricter on the condition of professional experience, as Lukeh says. However, on average, Canadian MBA students have 6.4 years of work experience. You might find this list useful: Athabasca University Applicants with a bachelor degree must have at least 3 years of managerial-level work experience; those with an acceptable professional designation but no degree require at least 5 years of managerial-level work experience. Resume required for application Brock University Work experience is not required but is preferred. Resume required for application. Cape Breton University A minimum of two years experience in community economic development. Resume required for application. Carleton University Resume required for application.
