Hi....have gotten an offer from strathclyde university's mba course. I wanted to know if the course is any good and how does it weigh when it comes to work oppurtunities....also it comes with a work visa of 2 yrs...I am from india, have also applied to sheffield ,...how difficult is to get a work permit after an mba from sheffiled or any university which doesnot offer a hsmp..?

But if you plan to stay in UK for your career after your MBA study, do consider schools under the HSMP programme. On another note, I hope you have already checked out your cohort internationality. In the previous batches of Strathclde MBA classes, there are just a lot of Indian students, more than 30-40% of the class. This is not a problem, but I hope you are aware of this. Good luck. Thanks a lot Thomas.Sat Jun 14, 2008 07:08 PM Bradford too offers the hsmp to its students....is this univ good too..is it better than strathclyde ....again i ask both from academics and future emloyment point of view....n how difficult woud be to get the hsmp if one does their degree from say aston. Some of its strengths include good ranking, strong networks with companies in UK, and good reputation. The downside includes relatively lack of cultural diversity (e.g. former 06 and 07 MBA cohorts reported that a typical class might have more than 50% participants from the same country), and relatively weaker career services. I heard that HSMP is being scrapped from this year especially for the MBA programmes entry. Thu Jul 03, 2008 05:17 AM Now all UK MBA;s are treated the same Anyone has idea on this? |

Hi all Mon Jul 14, 2008 03:22 PM I realized there are a lot of queries regarding the HSMP. Let me try to clarify some of them. HSMP was introduced in 2002, bringing skilled and experienced workers from overseas to obtain entry to UK, with a route to settlement in the country. This year, the HSMP system has been replaced with Tier 1 (General) Highly Skilled Visas. The Tier 1 (General) is very similar to the previous HSMP. However, one notable exception is the removal of the MBA provision which allowed those with MBAs from the previous listed universities "automatic" qualification. Now, all applicants have to go back to the point system. However, if you have graduated from the top tier business school, you are generally no problem in securing enough points to stay here if you wish to. I am one example to get stay here in London using the point system. For those who are preparing for their next year intake and may need some help in drafting their CV, application essays, references etc, pls feel free to contact me. Good luck to all. I always advice professionals to start their preparation early, as early as 10 - 12 months ahead if they seriously want to get into a top business school in Europe. DFES is a recognised body - almost "all" universities fall under the category. However, when you are planning to stay back in UK to work after your MBA programme, I would suggest you investigate your time to explore the top 20 universities in the country. Honestly, if you have a strong GMAT, and good working experience etc, I would encourage you to aim for the top 10 universities in the country. My experience tells me that there is a huge difference from graduates from Oxford with graduates from Middlesex University, for example. I have myself graduated from the top business university in the german-speaking world, University of St Gallen, in Switzerland under a sponsorship.
