Hi Guys

I recived an offer from Abertay Dundee Uni. I want to know if this is the kind of college i should be looking at for the MBA. I am wating for Liverpool, Sheffield. Please tell me if i have to look at other uni. I have about 4 years of experience however only about 16months of experience after graduation. Please advice

I think it depends on what your specialist interests are. Abertay looks good for biotech and energy management in particular, but if you're looking for something more general I'd go for Liverpool or Sheffield.

Thank you for that, i want to knwo if i can go to Aberta, Liverpool, Sheffield for MBA in marketing, do u suggest any other Uni for this course. I also want to know are the chance better for the MBA or Msc to find a JOB

I know its really difficult, but if you go to their websites, they may tell you which specialisms are included as part of their MBA programme. This is a skill that will definitely help when it comes to finding a JOB afterwards!

I think you may have missed the tone of my last response. No, I'm not going to tell you which one to go to. And if you want information on them, go to their websites, send off for their course booklets, or phone them up and talk to them. If you can't be bothered to do any of that, you really don't deserve to go to any of them.

Ok i dont think u understand what i mean. If u call any uni or u look at their website it will always talk about their positive side. Y would a uni write something that does not favour them. Any ways if u dont want to help thats fine mate. Only a student will help the other

Hello Raphael,

I agree with you, of course schools present themselves as the best. But to do a thorough research means that you look beoyond their marketing slogans and look for hard fact, statistics and other information on the websites.

Besides, why don't you go through the threads on UK schools on this board. There are many of them, with loads of valuable information.

I guess what our friend SebDouglas means is that you always need to take the initiative to do your own research. We can just help out with information to complete what you find yourself.

Can you please tell me where you come from?

I understand however every ranking contradicts the other and if you are looking at the facts it all seems like there is some one who is paying them for it.

And about the threads i have looked at all of them but that is not enough i want to know about the uni i have mentioned the only reason being i do not have 4 years of experience after graduation not am i 25 which is the mim age requirement.

I am from INDIA
I started working when i was 18 and at the moment i have about 4years of experience and currently working with accenture. I secured about 65% in BBM. The colleges metioned are all mordern and they are ready to bend the rules a little bit.

All i want to know is, is it worth an MBA form these uni or an MS form the top ranking uni.

I must conclude i have done enough research and shortlisted these colleges. I am looking at suggestions.

Well, the rankings differ, thats right, but they dont really contradict eachother that often. You should take them into account! But along with other factors.

So if I understand right, you consider the schools you mention, because they are not top notch and therefore would be more flexible in terms of criteria for admission? Right, but you should not do an MBA which is not know on the international market, then better work one more year or whatever to fulfil the conditions!

I am not well informed about UK schools I admit, but to me these names don't ring a bell, I'm afraid. Are you sure they are not to small and unknown?

I dont know but these MBA's also need 3years of experience and all the others are just the same it is just that they are not AMBA accredited. And all the rating has these name. The web site gives us a lot of information. Any ways i think there is no information i am getting out of this Disscusion Room Thank you

If you are planning to do your MBA in UK, I would assume you, as a non-European, would like to work in the country after your study. I hope this assumption is right.

If this is true, you may spend sometime to search for HSMP (Highly SKilled Migration Programme) information on the internet. More importantly, you should be awared that MBA graduates from a list of 50 top business schools would be entitled to stay and work in England. The list of top business schools that are eligible to this HSMP scheme is listed at: www.workpermit.com/uk/hsmp/mba_provision

I have gone through that list. It seems like i am not eligebile to get into any of them as i am not of the age of 25 nor do i have 3 years of post graduation experience.

What matters to me is my job pospects any where is the world, pleaes advise I have short listed 3 to 4 uni please let tell me how would this help

Uni of Bangor
Uni of Stafordshire

Or what about getting a seat in one of the Top 20's for Msc in the UK for example

Uni of Manchester
Uni of lancaster
Warwick Business School
Reading

First, I want you to understand that getting a MBA is not a destination, it is merely a beginning. Therefore, a MBA from a top business school is always vital if you are looking at an international job market after your education.

Judging that you are currently lack of enough working experience, I would recommend you to learn a MSc degree first. Among the few universities you have listed, they are all very good schools in UK, although I personally prefer Warwick because when I have met their director in Asia sometime last year, I have formed a very good impression of the school. In addition, learning a MSc from the school would enhance your MBA application at the same school 2-3 years later.

Alternatively, if you do consider going to a University in Switzerland, you may want to explore more about a university called University of St Gallen, which is deemed as the best business school in the German-speaking world. You can also serve my blog to know my life in Switzerland if you wish to, and learn from the experience how I ended up as one of the top 40 European students, publish an article in the Harvard Business Review, won the 11th World Biz Dialogue international essay competition etc.

I must confess the responses you are getting from those who have responded to your quarms are not very helpful. Note that the issue of MBA 's which would earn you an automatic 75 points has since been circumvented by the newly introduced Tier systems, meaning that no MBA will earn you an automatic 75 points. I would also like to advise you to be open minded and not to have pre-conceived ideas when asking for advise. I equally feel that the Universities that you are looking at are not well rated. Give it a try and make applications to Top Tier or atleast Mid-Tier Universities, they should definately accept you. Rating as well as accreditation are very important considerations for recruitors. Finally, an MBA is definately better than a MSc in terms of Job Prospects after graduating. Just to encourage you have a look at the following thread.

Wishing you all the Best and please don't lose hope even before trying something. Have you applied to all the Universities you are saying can't accept you? GIVE IT A TRY, they may just be short of 1 student to meet their quota and that may be you. It is not only Academic backgrounds that matter to be admitted, it could even be culture mix.

Thank you very much, I would like to say that i have tried and they all have a problem with my age in am 22 and they all say the same thing u have all it takes but the AMBA assosiation needs a mim age of 24atleast to apply.
When u say second teir college what are u mentioning cause Stirling is ranked about 27th just after some of the AMBA's and all the top colleges like Kingston or LSE or Reading they dont have MBA's so what about a MSc from Lancaster or LEEDS or Manchester .......some of the Best uni .......is it eqal to an MBA from the Second Tier Colleges

I was also thinking of applying for MSc in Marketing and Strategic Management from Carnfield, Warwick, Ashridge, Manchester

First, congrats to your successful application to Stirling and newcastle.

If you simply want a MBA, then go for it. Studying overseas is already very useful to enhance your personal growth and development. However, do consider of what I mentioned in the previious post, before you confirm your decisions. Because too often I have seen people are doing their second MBA, after their first MBA does not make a difference in their career.

Raphael, here's what I can offer.
First, forget rankings. Forget schools.

What do you want to do professionally? Is it something specific? Are you already set on this idea? If so, an MSc might be a good bet. If you have general ideas and open to different things, an MBA might serve you well. I should add, you ought to have some level of focus for this as well. The MBA is gives you most return on your investment, but only if you make a sound investment and have an idea of what YOU want.

After you decide what you want, decide where you want to be. What are the benefits to your leaving India? What are the opportunity costs? What are the pros and cons?

Gauge your academic strengths and weaknesses. Align them with the academic standards set forth by schools you are considering. Don't go solely by rankings. They change every year. I doubt any school in America or Europe pays to be ranked. Most good schools actually dislike rankings, because they are a bit misleading and distracting.

All this being said, if you are still conflicted, I would respectfully advise that you take some more time to work and gain experience and do more research as well. If possible, a planned trip to schools you might consider would be a good idea as well.

I'm sorry if you feel beaten up my others on this site, but you have to understand that a proper MBA will change your life. It isn't something you should randomly pick from a list or ask another person to choose for you.
