MBA - HKUST or HKU?
I am from Singapore and currently i have offers from both HKU and HKUST for full time MBA. Both are great schools and i am having a hard time choosing which school to choose.Sun Apr 13, 2008 04:02 PM HKUST seems to be better in ranking than HKU but HKU has a partnership with London Business School and Columbia Business School which seems really attractive. Can anyone tell me what are the benefits of the partnership over the exchange program in HKUST? Part of the HKUST includes about 3 months of internship, but HKU does not. Does internship make a lot of difference if i am looking for a career switch? Anyone knows whether the employers prefer HKUST or HKU MBA students? I would be happy to hear any advice or first-hand information of the 2 schools as well. :) Thanks |

MBA - HKUST or HKU?
Mon Apr 14, 2008 04:45 AM I am from Singapore and currently i have offers from both HKU and HKUST for full time MBA. Both are great schools and i am having a hard time choosing which school to choose. I guess HKUST is better in reputation while HKU has major attraction in form of its association with Columbia and LBS. Your both hands are full; you are in an envious position to have such great choices :-) By the way, when did you apply to HKUST - R1 or R2? Which industry are you from and which industry are you targetting post-MBA? [Edited by ramdi on 14 Apr 2008] |

MBA - HKUST or HKU?
Thanks:) But i am having a hard time deciding which one to choose. Mon Apr 14, 2008 07:25 AM I applied to HKUST in R2, just before the deadline. Currently i am in the engineering field, and probably targeting at mgmt/strategic consulting for post MBA. Any advice for me? |

Mon Apr 14, 2008 09:59 AM Thanks:) But i am having a hard time deciding which one to choose. Frankly, Hongkong is the place to be in finance. If you assess both school in consulting/strategy, they are at best very mediocre... Choose any. |

MBA - HKUST or HKU?
HiSun Jun 08, 2008 08:16 PM Between the two, HKUST is a better school and also enjoys a higher ranking in the MBA programme. You may want to consider the internationality of the cohort, the alumni's job prospect etc to decide which one is more suitable to you. Kind regards, Thomas |

Both are great schools and i am having a hard time choosing which school to choose. HKUST will give you a better overall MBA experience, but if you must go on an exchange to Columbia or LBS then you might want to consider HKU. Their partnership is basically a guaranteed exchange program, as there are no professors from Columbia nor LBS teaching at HKU in HK. HKUST has limited exchange spots for these schools so you would have to be at the top of the class to go there. Also you dont need to do an internship at HKUST you can finish the MBA in 12 months. |

Thu Oct 02, 2008 04:03 AM I prefer HKU, HKU is a big name. big name where? HKUST is up to #11 in EIU ranking, lets wait and see for FT. from what I hear admissions to HKUST are almost as competitive as for Insead these days. All the rejects go to HKU. |

Mon Oct 13, 2008 08:04 AM I prefer HKU, HKU is a big name. I have looked at many schools in asia and narrowed it down to Insead-Singapore and HKUST in that order. HKU might be old and prestigious but certainly not in management/business. |

MBA - HKUST or HKU or CUMBA?
Actually, there's another strong MBA Programmes offered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUMBA). They are the longest running MBA Programmes in the region and already have more than 5000 graduates (with over 1000 MBA graduates in China) taking up top executive positions which I'd suggest all of you here to consider CUMBA as well.Mon Jan 19, 2009 09:16 AM I am from Singapore and currently i have offers from both HKU and HKUST for full time MBA. MBA - HKUST or HKU?
HelloMon Jan 19, 2009 10:30 AM I dont understand what the appeal of the exchange program is? if you are interested in Columbia or LBS than apply there directly. Do people think of this as sorts of back door entry to these schools? One needs to realize that doing an exchange does not equal to being an accepted student at those schools. If you make the decision to come to Asia make the most of it, exchange to a mainland China program or other Asian country. for the original question, 95% of people would choose HKUST. |

well, an exchange program is a good way to extend ones network - and in this case, have the opportunity to network with people from those two great business school. Mon Jan 19, 2009 11:25 AM although im not sure about the number you stated, HKUST is well reputed and ranked higher by the economist - at NR 11. but the applicants to places ratio is higher and they take in more students annually. HKU students also seems to find jobs faster after graduation, and i also like the fact that they require 3 years of work experience instead of just one. |
