How's ENPC Paris MBA??

Hello every one?

Could you let me know if ENCP Paris is a good business school or not? I would like to apply but do not have an idea of the quality of its MBA programmes.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Sarah

I think it looks really pretty good. Although it isnt included in the economists rankings, as they themselves say 'The inability to include them in the rankings does not reflect any shortcoming of the programme.'
It looks like ENPC has many strengths. Being part of the Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC), the ENPC School of International Management is the only business school affiliated with a Grande Ecole des Ingénieurs de Paris. (a very elite and renowned institution)

The school's MBA programs seem to benefit from being very personalized, and it is proud of the close links between faculty, staff and students. The program is mostly taught by world-class visiting faculty from renowned business schools like Warwick, Cornell, Cambridge, NYU, Rotterdam School of Management or Trinity College. The school is proud of its internationality (55 students from 23 nationalities) and its diversity (over 40% women)

Another obvious plus is that it is located in the center of Paris.

Their Dean Prof. Tawfik Jelassi, Ph.D. says:

'Our MBA is supported by the ENPC, one of the leading engineering schools in Europe and the oldest civil engineering school in the world since the ENPC was created in 1747. In the areas of economics, management and finance, we collaborate with some of the ENPC academic departments and research laboratories.

Our MBA graduates join both private sector companies as well as the public sector and supra-national organizations (such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission, the OECD, the African Development Bank, etc.). Business sectors that our alumni have joined include Consulting, Banking and Finance, Pharmaceutical, Energy, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Transportation/Logistics, Manufacturing, etc. Also several of our graduates set up every year their own venture and thus follow an entrepreneurial route.

The faculty involved in the ENPC MBA programs includes permanent Professors as well as Visiting Faculty coming from leading universities and business schools from all over the world. They represent different academic and professional backgrounds and world-class research achievements. As the faculty members themselves are internationally diverse in terms of their cultural, geographic and business perspectives, our MBA participants get exposed to an enriching variety of schools of thought and teaching approaches.'

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Dear Lukeh,

Many thanks indeed for your post and for quoting the Dean. I had read his interview on www.accessmba.com, but the fact that someone confirmed the quality of its MBA programmes means a lot to me.

Hi,

Thank you for your post. Would the fact that it is unknown outside of France mean that it has no international accrediations?

Thank you for your reply in advance.

I mean that the international recogniton of the school is not for the MBA (maybe for engineers).
My opinion is that there are a bunch of MBA programs in Europe better recognized for international companies and any of theese may be a better option for your expeience, career, alumni...

I believe that ENPC has one international acrred.

Accreditation is one thing, it is a necessary recognition of the quality of the MBA, given by an international independant insitution. It is a about quality of the program itself.

The other thing is the interntaional reputation of the program: Will a German or Spanish employer know the program? Is it a brand speaking for itself? Ranking is one indicator, but many other aspects play a role.

As one of the Accreditef body, AMBAS, If you search for the members, you will find all kind of schools, from the reputed to the unknown schools. So, it may be a bit difficult to conclude that the Accreditation helps with the decision (from my point). Maybe we can combine the 3/4 bodies and see which schools are there?

What I meant is that the accreditation is the first condition sine qua non - you should not even consider an MBA which does not have any serious accreditation. It will not be worth it.

TO find out if a programs correspond to your personal career goals, you have to take into account all kinds of other factors, as SingleSpain describes.

Dear Friends,

Thanks for your posts. Actually I am looking for a school which would offer me a full scholarship. I have been informed that ENCP can offer full scholarships, which interested me at first, but the thing is I have never liked to live in France, so I don't think I would apply for that particularly after what you guys have told me. Do you know of Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) in Germany? What is that like?

Regards,
Sarah

Sarah,
Schools offer schoolarships, but not all of them cover 100% of the MBA tuitition. Also, for been eligible to one of them you shoud apply very ealry and have an outstanding candidature (very good grades, high GMAT,...).

I would consider more than 1 school, apply to all of them and see where you have higher chances of getting an schoolarship.

Accreditation

The ENPC School of International Management is a member of the international association AMBA - The Association of MBA´s that regulates and promotes management education.

Membership of this association helps to ensure that the School is at the forefront of new ideas and best practice in business education, not just in Europe, but worldwide.

This organization also provides assurance to candidates of accredited MBA programs which are subject to rigorous external audit and validation. The ENPC MBA Programs have been accredited by AMBA since 1995 and were most recently re-accredited in 2006.

Hello Sarah,
Why should you chose a French school if you don´t like living in France?
Doing your MBA will take some time, up to 2 years, you should use that chance of spending a continuous time in a foreign country as an experience you benefit of in all aspects: language, mentality and culture to discover.
If you already know that you will leave France running after you finish you studies, and it sounds like it, it is a bit of a waste and you should definitely chose another country.

Also don´t forget France is particularly attached to its culture and in that sense more "difficult" for foreigners than other countries unless you adapt well to local habits.

Which European country you would be interested in? You have quite a list of very good MBAs in other countries in Europe, which can often be a lot more known internationally and more attractive for you.

I am not so aware of the international perception of French b-schools, - but as SingleSpain´s post suggests, an ENPC MBA seems to be more useful for a career in France more than outside France, so be careful, do a bot more of a research before deciding

BTW the scholarship opportunity should never be the main factor to decide - many schools offer that, covering your costs to various extend. Have a look at website of other schools, take The Netherlands or Skandinavia, you´ll be surprised !
