I want to undertake business studies but want to get a good idea first before I embark on something like a full blown MBA course. Can anyone suggest what I can do say about 6 - 18 months that may even provide credits to the MBA if I go ahead? I have heard there is a MINI MBA but other than Chifley I cant find anywhere else or what subjects it contains, length of time or how much it is. I need something in Sydney. I would really appreciate the help as I don't know where to start and the websites I visited are very confusing. Thank you.

I enrolled in their MBA program back in 1995-6 which was their first joint - cooperation with Deakin University ( a real public university) which i attended on campus back 20 years ago. Due to work reasons and family, i have moved to Canada for 7 years (and there are no exam centers) ; and had to defer the studies, I have obtained 3 credits of the 12. So when i relocated back to HK, i was able to pick up this pursuit again. I applied again. They refused to recognise the "credits" . I have resent my application many times; They still refused and ask me to retake all units. The units I studied was accounting and economics, these theories doesn't change over time. (ICT does.) I end up spending my money somewhere else, and Charles Sturt U offered a 2nd stage program for a Master of IT, I was offered exemptions to all stage 1 for my 20 year old Computer Science major (an irony). I have just completed this Master in 12 months. I also enrolled in a PgDip in Marketing at the same time. also just completed. In summary, I end up having 2 postgrad qualifications; and now i have recently found U of Sunderland, UK which offered stage 2 - top up MBA and have accepted my application. So I can completed my MBA without all these FUSS with Chifley and U of Sunderland is a real public university too. If this is the way Chifley runs their business school program, I am doubtful if this will be worthwhile for any online or distance learning program - not preaching what they teach in "marketing 101" "contextual discretion" "Bad WOM" In all, Chifley is not customer focus, pure profit-play, and I am not sure if they have sufficient access to "online library" "journal database" to support the program. Being from HK, i was able to access Charles Sturt U's online access to library and journal database and it helps me on my work as a General Manager and Entrepreneur in Residence. Try Open U, UK and if you are local in Australia Try RMIT through open Australia (google it). Fair Dinkum, stay away from Chifley.

My current qualifications for them to accept me at STAGE 2 was based on B.Sc (Deakin U) M. InfoTech (Charles Sturt U) PgDip Mkt (HKU/HKIM) MACS, MBCS, MHKIM, my 3 units of 12 subjects attained at Deakin/APESMA and my credential as a General Manager/Entrepreneur I finished my M.InfoTech and PgDip Mkt all in last 12 months. and like i said. i spend my money somewhere else and FORGET about CHIFLEY ... I still want to pursue a MBA becauase MBA in Australia only accept coursework whereas MBA (UK) requires research methods and dissertation. THIS IS EVEN BETTER FOR ME. I will end up paying much less than CHIFLEY. and i will have 2 Masters, 1 PgDip and 2 professional membership qualification.

The Chifley MBA program IS NOT accredited at all as a MASTER DEGREE, their selected modules may have received accreditation from Project Management Inst. per se. but the Australia Quality Framework AQF have no registration from this so called business school. they have however register in Victoria state only as a "Education/Training Business or Centre" organisation Chifley Business School Pty Ltd This link bring you directly to Victoria Registration and Qualification Authority and tinyurl.com/Chifley-MBA-NOT-ACCREDITED And this link will show you their registration only tinyurl.com/CHIFLEY-MBA-REGISTRATION-ONLY V13939 (with no DATE stamped , wonder why ) But remember, all state or public university will be registered under AQF and alternative private providers they register to private higher education council (Bond University belongs to this one), I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone considering CHIFLEY to be aware. When they had DEAKIN U. ( a real university) - I joined. When they had Latrobe U (For those lucky few, go finish your Latrobe degree fast b4 they shut the tap). With today's convenience in entering a decent MBA program, I see A LOT MORE alternatives to this program. Ping me here , and I will help you find a better school. Deakin U (5 STARS ****) Chifley (1 STAR ) Link here: www.gmaa.asn.au/star_rating.cfm I would never pay a dime to get a so called MBA degree for which it is registered to 1 Australia state only and proven to be worth 1 star.

LittleSceintist Joined: 27 Jul 2009 Posts: 24	Don't even think about Chifley Thu Jun 03, 2010 07:08 PM Charles Sturt University (for which I am an alumni) for my Master degree apparently allows/parnters with CHifley for enrolment into their DBA program. Given that DBA is a professional doctorate, not a research doctoral; it is all about money and less of research competency. I am verifying via CSU's website the truth of this; whether there is still a partnership as Chifley claims on their website here www.chifley.edu.au/partnerships.aspx I know the vice chancellor of CSU in person and I can easily send him a mail to verify this claim from CHIFLEY.

It's good that you are interested in business though - I would recommend looking into enrolling in a local community college or university to just get your feet wet - take classes in accounting, finance, etc. Ultimately, you'll want to at least have a bachelor's degree and a couple years of work experience under your belt before you think about an MBA.

Chifley Business School has been successfully delivering higher education management education for over 20 years. Chifley is a non-self accrediting higher education provider ( www.aqf.edu.au/RegisterAccreditation/Accreditation…). As a result of our status we are reviewed annually by the VRQA and are required to go through a major re-accreditation process every 5 years for each course we develop and to maintain our status as a higher education provider. If you click through to the more detailed information there are 2 tabs on the profile for CBS, one for our VET courses and another for our higher education which has listed our MBA programs and other postgraduate programs that we offer. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding you have of CBS's accreditation status. Regards Paul
