Which EMBA Program in HK

Can anyone help me to choose an EMBA program in HK. I know both North American schools like Kellogg and Ivey offer the program, as well as local schools like CityU, CUHK. How do they compare? Is it worth the money to go for an EMBA?

HONG KONG UST EMBA with KELLOGG is ranked #3 in the world, and was ranked as high as #2.
Easy choice if you ask me..

Might also consider M.S. Global Finance HKUST/NYU

Thanks Globetraveler.

Well, I knew about the ranking; however I am sure other programs are there for a reason. I know Ivey use a case teaching method, CUHK might offer a better local and China network, or Kellogg offer better insights in Marketing (that's what they are famous for I assume). Which program is good value overall (program tuitions varies up to HK$400K)? How about faculty, CUHK teaches classes in Cantonese, Madarin, and English, Kellogg uses a combination of Kellogg professors and HKUST professors, and Ivey uses only professors from their school in Canada.

Anyone have comments about getting an EMBA in Hong Kong or experiences in the programs.

Thank you for sharing and your input in advance.

Well thats like having a choice between a ferrari (HK UST/Kellogg EMBA) and something much less glamorous (all the other EMBAs)

I mean EMBA HKUST/KEllog is ranked #3 in the world, what else is there to consider. IVEY despite appearing in rankings, is not well known around the world. CUHK is a joke, do not even waste your time looking at it.

I don't think CUHK is a joke. It has top ratings in some rankings such as the Asiaweek ranking (2000): www.asiaweek.com/asiaweek/features/mba/data/hk.htm… whereas HKUST is nowhere to be found in the Asiaweek ranking. In the 2005 businesweek EMBA ranking, both schools are only listed listed as unranked schools.

I agree that HKUST is a good school, but some of your comments seem to be a bit biased. HKUST is not the only top school in Asia.

May I ask, what are the reasons for your personal enthusiasm about HKUST? Have you done the HKUST Kellogg EMBA?

There must be a mistake: in the FT executive education ranking of 2007 EMBA HKUST/KEllog does not figure on position #3 - it does not even appear..

You guys are talking about a different ranking by the Financial Times! Executive Education Ranking and EMBA Ranking are two different rankings publish by FT. I started the post because I want to know more inside information. I personally do not want to make judgements based on rankings. I am in the publication business and business schools are the big time advertisers in these publications that publish rankings. Please look at them as reference only. Talk to people who really are either in the program or had done the program.

So please, anyone who have REAL answer to my questions, or I am just wasting my time in here.

I don't want to sound rude, but I think you should be a bit more thankful to people who put a lot of effort in answering your questions!

I really don’t want to be rude. If I sounded like I am, please let me apologize here.
I believe most people come to this site for personal advice. Repeating the point of view of any major publication does not really help as those are very public information. Calling any program a joke does not help either. I think all programs are there for a reason. I am sure there must be strong and weakness to every program. I was hoping to start some discussion in that area.

No problem. I also think you should not rely on rankings too much. It is always good to get some first hand information from someone who has done a program, but you don't get that much feedback by former students in boards like this.

You can find some interesting information about HKUST in this thread: www.find-mba.com/board/3474 . Maybe you can ask vasilijs about his experience at CUHK.

Thanks York.
There are much discussions about HKUST/Kellogg EMBA and CUHK EMBA, how about IVEY, from what I read from their website, they are one of the top B-school in Canada, having their own program (not joint with any local Universities, but that can also be a plus or a shortfall) invested their own campus in the Convention Center. Any body have experience with them?

to me, having faculty from Canada is more a quality-guarantee. you may want to check with the joint program to find out which school actually issue the transcript,it better not be the local school. ivey is different from the others as they use case-teaching. why don't you sit-in one of their classes to see if you like their teaching method! afterall, diff program suit diff ppl. as i wont quit my job and go for full-time study, i'll consider program having classes on sats and suns only.

this might be the easiest choice anywhere, why would you even consider any other school than HK UST/Kellogg? RAnked #3 in the world, with no other school in HK even on the radar screen..

thats like asking someone in the US should I go to Wharton or Kansas State?

Kansas State is the place to go if you are looking for a "college for the changing world".

Thank you for all your input and I finally made my choice after visiting and going to seminar sessions from various schools. I am now enrolling in the EMBA program with IVEY in Hong Kong.

If anyone have question about the program, please send me PM, I will be more than happy to answer any question.

For those who are interested in rankings, IVEY was ranked 12th among top international schools in the latest WSJ 2007 b-schools ranking.

I just applied Kellog/HKUST's EMBA program, gone through interview 2 weeks ago, still waiting for reply.

Read from news that they are going to raise the tuition fee next year, hope that my application is successful so that I can save some money!
