Part-time MBA in Dubai - Bradford / Strathclyde / EBS
hey,Thu Aug 02, 2012 03:48 PM I am looking to begin part-time MBA this year at Dubai. After going thru options available my thoughts: INSEAD & LBS - Great, but not fitting in budget, got other commitments Hult & Manchester - Not convinced Strathclyde, Bradford & Herriot-Watt EBS - seem interesting About me: An Indian who comes from Merchant Navy with 15 years experience at sea with command. I could have slid into a Marine role ashore but that was not very appealing to me. So I made a bit of career move and took up a Sales job (for a company manufacturing Navigation equipment) and find myself in comfortable position after 1.5 years. Facts: At 36, am performing a mid-management role and would like to do an MBA to better understand how a business is run, at the same time ensure career progression. Areas of interest - Strategy Planning and starting own business. Post MBA - have some business ideas but not sure where to start, not in a position to take risk yet but would like to take the plunge in coming years. Appreciate if some folks here know Alumni from Strathclyde / bradford / EBS to tell me more. Look forward to your comments. Cheers Kamal [Edited by Kamal Yadav on 02 Aug 2012] |

I don't think you'll find many alumni here, but do take a look at the past discussion: www.find-mba.com/boardsearch/65/q/Dubai+BradfordThu Aug 02, 2012 03:59 PM Heriot-Watt should be avoided until it gets reputable, international accreditation. I am very interested to see that both the other programmes are at a 40% discount in Dubai - that's great value. I guess Bradford has a stronger ranking, but if you want to stay in the UAE then Strathclyde has a better local alumni network [Edited by JK Duncan on 02 Aug 2012] |

hey Duncan... thanks your response.Thu Aug 02, 2012 06:07 PM Main reason HW is down in my list is due to the fact that they dont even have a project work or research in their programme, which is strange for an MBA degree curriculum. Accreditation is a subject matter of discussion, as I understand they do not intend to get accr by private institutions and are proud to be Royal Charter accredited. But the fact is that HW is the only ones offering specialism in Strategy planning among three. Just to confirm, am I missing any colleges offering part time MBA here. |

Use the Program Search in the top left for other programmes. Thu Aug 02, 2012 08:06 PM A royal charter is not a form of accreditation. |

I have a question out of the context.Fri Aug 03, 2012 09:31 AM Reg Harvard Business School, what is the Executive program offered? Is it this? www.exed.hbs.edu/programs/gmp/Pages/default.aspx Or they have another Executive MBA which I could not locate? If it is, it sounds very interesting and VFM? |

No Harvard does not have an executive MBA. The GMP is good but it will not have the depth, placement support or networking power of an MBA.

Wed Aug 08, 2012 01:43 PM Just to confirm, am I missing any colleges offering part time MBA here. Depending on your experience level, SP Jain has a modular EMBA program that's pretty interesting. They ask that students have at least three years of experience, but in practice they usually recruit those with about 5+ years. |

Erza, thanks your suggestionThu Aug 09, 2012 07:35 AM I did go thru the website, Is SP Jain program truly Global? It has great standing in India but not sure about Global standing. How's Bradford program? Both Strathclyde and Bradford do not list in FT rankings this year. I would prefer a program consisting of mainly projects. |

Bradford and Strathclyde are in the executive MBA ranking, and SP Jain stands every chance of a better ranking when its EMBA is old enough to get into the EMBA ranking:Thu Aug 09, 2012 07:52 AM rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/emba-rankin… You can also compare Bradford and Strathclyde here: rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/european-bu… [Edited by JK Duncan on 09 Aug 2012] |

Thu Aug 09, 2012 01:57 PM I did go thru the website, Is SP Jain program truly Global? It has great standing in India but not sure about Global standing. It has campuses in Singapore and Sydney, in addition to Dubai and its sister campus in Mumbai. I'd say that it's pretty global - although it doesn't have the same kinds of ties to the West as INSEAD and LBS do. |

I'm an MBA from Bradford University in Dubai. I did the part time course a few years back and can gladly recommend the course to anybody who wants to pursue it.Mon Aug 13, 2012 04:50 PM The faculty flies down to Dubai from the home campus on a regular basis, the course material is intensive and the study is based on modern and current management principles. The Bradford University office (at Knowledge Village in Dubai) is a useful place to visit and discuss about available courses etc |

What I meant was the students attending course at are mostly Indians and a few chinese.. that pretty much restricts the experience students bring to the class. I would like to do an MBA where I get chance to learn from experiences by various nationalities.. and I believe that makes an MBA truly global. |

Thanks Phani for sharing your experience. I would like to ask how serious is the project and do they give chance to work with real companies. Another important thing would be what is the support extended on career development? |
