DL - Aston vs Durham

Good morning All,

My wife is looking at doing a DL MBA and we pretty much identified 3 options that could work considering that we live in China (she is british), I work and we will soon have a 3rd child (2 other ones are young).

Anyway, long story short:

1 - Warwick is the consensus around here for DL but the timing of the weeks to be spend at school is not good for us (we usually are in Europe over Summer)

2 - Aston
Seems to be the way to go, rating provided in the economist survey is not that far from Warwick's.
My wife undergrad degree is international business from Aston (10 years ago) and she works in marketing ... any reason to be concerned about having an undergrad and post grad degree from the same university?

3 - Durham
Seems to have good ratings as well and would fit our constraints should Aston not be the way to go ....

We have looked into many others Imperial, Royal Holloway, Manchester .... so some feedback specific to the shortlist above would be greatly appreciated!

Any concern about having an undergraduate and graduate degree from the same university (though 10 years apart)?

I don't think that's a major factor. In terms of network in China, Manchester has a bigger base than those three other schools put together and they have a local base in Shanghai. I would also look at US DL MBAs: I am big fan of the Wisconsin Online MBA, which has waivers for people with business degrees. www.wisconsinonlinemba.org/mba/modules.php

I have an engineering MSc from Manchester and have been in touch with their offices both in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Hi Duncan,
Could you please advice?!

Regarding online MBAs, which is best in terms of employers preference among Warwick,Durham and Henley? I have 20 years of post-qualification experience, and would like to do an online MBA(circumstances don't allow me to go for full time as well as Executive MBA options). Would US employers prefer an online MBA, like the one from Warwick?

I think this really depends on the employer. I don't think most US employers would really be very aware of the difference between one UK degree and another unless it was Oxbridge, LSE or LBS. They would understand AASCB accreditation. If you want to work in the US, get a US degree.

In the UK, Warwick and Henley are really well respected MBAs, and Durham rather less so - it's a cash crop for export, and rather academic. My impression is that Warwick has more face time and soft skills elements than Henley, and I think employers will take it more seriously. But Henley has a high quality alumni network and is certainly a close second.

What are the AACSB accredited online MBAs in US, which don't demand GMAT, and still have good placement history?

I don't think that any of the MBAs from unranked schools have any placement services at all. They are aimed at people who are in work, and normally are not looking for the roles at typical full-time MBA students enter.

I never heard anything good about RDI educational support for students.

Eventhough, Georgia Web MBA is AACSB accredited ,I have not seen them in any of the popular rankings.Is it reputed in US?
