Which B-School.... ?? please suggest...

Hi All,

Gave my GMAT today. Below is my profile: -

Academics overall has been good.

Experience : 7 years currently in Indian IT Industry (Would be 8 years with 10 more months of Internation Exp till the time I actually apply for 2013/2014). Client is British Telecom (UK). Approx 3 years of international experience in UK. Worked as Onshore coordinator, Delivery Manager, Release Manager, Managed Service Lead. I have been leading a team of 15 so have sufficient leadership experience. Worked in Test Environment / Design Side as well as Network Side of the British Telecom Client

GMAT - 680

I am looking for Asian schools since the economy is Europe is not doing that good. Schools like NUS, NTU and SMU.

Queries I have: -

1) Do I have a realistic chance in NUS and NTU and is SMU of comparable quality w.r.t these 2 schools. Also please suggest further Asian schools in which I would have a realistic chance.

2) I was earlier looking for B-Schools in Europe specially in UK...but doing due to economic conditions I am a little worried gng there....are they any countries still that can provide job after study to Non-EU's, Germany ? Netherlands ?....In UK they have stopped the Post Study Work Visa, any idea if something would be done about it in the near future as I do not want to spend 50L and come back to India.

3) Will Australia or South Africa be a good destination in terms of good schools and post study work options, though Australia is definitely costly...

Looking forward for your replies as I want to narrow down on the list so that I can target schools within my reach....Thanks in advance

I think you're right to focus on Asia, and on those schools in Singapore. As long as you apply early, I think you're a reasonable candidate. Take a look at www.find-mba.com/board/27082

Did you visit any? I'm a big fan of the CUNY Baruch programmes in Singapore.

no... they relegated me in office from 8 to 23.00 for 10 days running :-(
By the way, just going from office to Hotel (and to a couple of restaurants) I could spot: Insead, Nanyang, NTU, ecc. Also Booth and Yale have something there
My hotel was in front to one of the SMU buildings: the brand must be very powerful .. I asked around and people confirmed that they must be very influent in Singapore to have built from scratch so many buildings in the city hall

Thanks guys....so is SMU comparable with NUS & Nanyang as I dont SMU on the FT rankings...

Also if I compare Canada with Singapore in terms of B-schools (as I hope i would have a chance in Canada as well) , wats the best bet ?

SMU's MBA is too young to get into the rankings, and NTU and NUS have a reputational advantage too. Focus on them. The top Canadian schools are also reasonable targets for you. Personally, I prefer the climate in Singapore.

The opportunities will be much better in a stable, growing economy. Ireland has a rough few decades ahead.

hi Naman,
You have an option of combining Asian and European Degree. You can look for Asian MBA schools that provide a dual degree option. You can do 2 masters degree one in Asia and one in Europe.
AIT School of Management Thailand is one such school. There could be others in Asia as well

Hi,

I have decided to give GMAT one more try just to see if i can reach my aim 720-740 score. This all for my dream schools, LBS, Oxford and Cambridge.

However I noticed one thing on FT rankings. Oxford and Cambridge schools were equal or lower in rankings as compared to some Indian (IIM-A, ISB) and Singapore schools (NUS).

Is it really the case ? I always thought Oxford & Cambridge were one of the world's best. Can someone advice on this please ?

The rankings are quite fair indicators of quality. The MBA is the flagship programme at ISB, IIMA, NUS etc but at Oxbridge the MBA is marginal.

But to land up with a job in UK (or Europe) won't Oxford/Cambridge be better than NUS, ISB, IIM ??

Yes, but you do not have an exclusive focus on the UK, do you? Of course if you have one regional focus, you should study there. But the fact is that you'll get a more extensive MBA training at ISB or IIM-A/B/C than you would do at Oxbridge.
