Hello All - I am leaning towards an MBA in Sustainability. I live and work in NYC. I was hoping for some help in my search for local schools that offer the program. I am also seeking help for accredited Distance Learning programs in the above mentioned fields. It seems that most of the schools here (NYC) don't offer programs in Sustainability, so schools with Distance Learning may be my best bet.

Duncan - Thank you for the reply. I did use the search function you mentioned. I did find a few couple of schools in the area that have the program, but I am trying to zero in on accredited schools in Distance Learning in Sustainablity. I am looking for some help on that front.

You might check out our MBA program, the Marlboro MBA in Managing for Sustainability (gradschool.marlboro.edu/academics/mba/). We launched in 2007 as the first MBA program east of the Rockies to adopt the sustainability-oriented curriculum pioneered by BGI and Presidio on the West Coast. Many of our students and alumni live in the NYC area. Our program is hybrid, with ten 3-day intensives per year at our center in Southern Vermont, and distance learning between intensives. You are welcome to come visit.

Maybe check out NYU Stern's Social Innovation and Impact MBA concentration? It's got a good entrepreneurial focus: you can be funded to do an internship or create green initiatives on campus.

CUNY/Zicklin also has a wealth of electives in sustainable business, and you can pursue a major in this field as well.

And it's a bit outside the city, but Bard just launched a new sustainability MBA program. Bard's new to the MBA game, which means they're not accredited so it is a bit of a risk - but the college does have a long history of credibility across many disciplines. From what I've heard, I think this program will be pretty good.

I saw about Bard. Seems too new, but good to know. Zicklin is a keeper for me.

As for Distance Learning - anyone have any information about:
(1) ESCEM School of Business and Management
Tours, France
(2) Franklin Pierce University
(3) Southern New Hampshir University

Southern New Hampshire University is good - the president Paul LeBlanc is the former president of Marlboro College and the founder of the graduate school where our MBA is located - but have you considered Green Mountain College, in Poultney, Vermont? I am of course partial to our hybrid approach (I believe it fosters the face-to-face community that is essential to sustainable paths), but they have a 100% online green MBA program. So does Antioch in Keene, New Hampshire. Those programs are genuinely sustainability-oriented as well. You should visit and compare them all, of course.

One suggestion: I'd be especially careful about non-accredited online MBA programs in general. Admittedly, there seems to be a new non-accredited sustainability program launched each day with varying degrees of legitimacy (the Bard program that Ralph mentioned looks good, and Presidio is on-track for AACSB accreditation,) you should be especially careful with online programs. The learning experiences can vary dramatically. ESCEM is the only program you mentioned that's accredited by an internationally-respected organization.

I'd recommend researching these programs - contacting them and asking them how the online components work and asking about career arcs for recent grads to get a sense of their effectiveness.

Also, MBA@UNC, a top program using up-to-date online learning technologies, offers a concentration in Sustainable Enterprises. Check it out, if only to get a sense of comparison.
