Is an MBA right for me?

Hi,

I am currently working in Brighton in marketing but I plan to move to the US with my husband within the next two years or so. Currently I write industry news articles and conduct interviews with C-level executives. I hold a BA in political science, but have always been working in marketing. I am interested in obtaining management skills.

Is an MBA right for me? Please advise!

Hi,
As you work in marketing and want to get management skills, I think an MBA is perfect for you.

Do you intend to do is in the States after moving, or during the time you're still in the UK? In the latter case I can give you some information because I studied in London, but I don't know anything about MBAs in the US.

Hi Mikaela,

if you intend to work in the US an MBA will open many doors. In the US, MBAs from a top US (!) business school are more highly regarded than anything else. This is why I would apply to a of American first-tier schools, which a strong reputation in Marketing such as:

- Columbia Buisiness School
- NYU
- Fordham
- Boston
- Yale

Competition to get into these programs is tough. This is why additionally, I would also consider applying to some medium-rated schools with an MBA in Marketing such as DePaul, Pace, San Diego or Hofstra just to make sure you get accepted in the end.

hello, I want to joint an MBA program, and I'm confuse to choose the subject. that's why I need help for Choosing.
I like marketing, business, hospitality, human resources, and finance. I need to choose university to, but my GPA was shamefull (it's about 2.7). can I have any suggestion pls.

Hi weivillage,
It's good that you have a large scope of interests :)
But let me ask you the following questions:
- Which degree do you have? What did you study?
- In what field is your working experience?
- Where do you want to work after the MBA (which sector and which country)?

But I understand that you are a bit lost, I would have needed some advise what direction my career should take, when I took my decision about MBA..

Hofstra is a much better school to go to, than Fordham for example. Marketing is top notch, with Evans and Berman doing something like the 20th edition of the marketing book used by all major schools.
Much better career service center, and lower overall costs of the program.

I assume that you have a Japanese background. why not capitalize on that? Go to HONG KONG UST.

Get the best Asian MBA there, and utilize their exchange program to go to Columbia or NYU for a semester.

how is this unrelated? a semester at a top US school which she could probably only dream about attending... why would someone with Japanese heritage want to go to school in the US when Asia is booming and there is such a shortage of talent. Few words of friendly advice thats all.
