Chances of Being Accepted
I got my first degree from a national open university. I went to a public university before but I resigned due to the high work-load and my father's conditions(I worked full time since the second year and my father's health was deteriorating). After quitting, I continued working for a year before transferring my credits to a national open university.Although having graduated with GPA more than 3.5 I wonder if this flaw in the past would affect my application when applying for an MBA at reputable business schools in UK. I wonder if Indonesian students can stand a good chance considering (I'm well aware) the quality of our education. Will my previous job working at the U.N help? Will it make a difference if you work for a non-profit organization? One more thing, do they count your work experience after graduating only?Tue Aug 08, 2006 09:30 AM Thank you in advance. |

I am not too familiar with the universities in Indonesia. Generally, as you will know the required GPA varies from university to university. For instance, Birmingham (www.bham.ac.uk/page.asp?section=000100010009001000…) requires a GPA of 3, and Westminster (www.wmin.ac.uk/mba/entrance.htm) requires a GPA level of at least 3 from "a major American University". Thus, the best advice is to check the MBA websites very carefully for admissions requirements.Tue Aug 08, 2006 12:53 PM There are two university websites, which I found quite helpful as they provide specific information for applicants from other countries. First, Manchester provides specific admission criteria for some countries including Indonesia. See www.manchester.ac.uk/international/apply/applyforp… The University of Toronto has a equivalency table for international grades at www.sgs.utoronto.ca/prospective/admission/index.as… , which is said to be used by several universities. Indonesia is also among the countries in this table (see list at bottom of page). I am sure, your job at the UN will also facilitate your chances, too. Just pick some top & medium ranked UK business schools and give it a try. Good luck! [Edited 08 Aug 2006 by LaVoz de Galicia] |

Thanks, Uxl :-)Thu Aug 10, 2006 02:40 AM I was wondering if there's an MBA program that concentrates on Logistic/Warehouse Management/Shipping. If there's any, what's the difference with Msc in the same field (except for the cost). For some reasons, I'd prefer taking my postgraduate studies in England or Singapore. |

I know that in the UK Coventry University and the Derbyshire Business School offer an LLM in logistics. Have you browsed through the UK listings on the Find-MBA website or tried the subject-based search at www.find-mba.com/search? Maybe there are some more UK programs in the subjects you mentioned.Fri Aug 11, 2006 01:58 PM As the regards the MBA/Msc issue, check this discussion: "MA/Msc vs MBA" at www.find-mba.com/board/2512 - I guess Marsha's post sums it up pretty well. |

That may work. Check the links above. The Exeter admissions website is also quite useful: www.offices.ex.ac.uk/international/prospective/cou…Sat Nov 25, 2006 04:41 PM Surrey accepts 2.7 (www.som.surrey.ac.uk/student/mba/mbaFAQ.asp) |
