Msc Programs - Edinburgh/Strathclyde.....???
Fri Jul 14, 2006 11:02 AM I have offeres from Msc International Marketing in University of Strathclyde and Msc Management at University of Edinburgh. I have done BBA with majors in Marketing. In the offing, I plan to do Business. Yes, will do a job for 2-3 years though. I know that MSC(taught) programs are new. MSC programs have been started very recently. Not more than 5 years old. I had a talk with the editor of financial times regarding the Maters Rankings in Europe published in 2005. I was concerned why other business schools masters programs werent listed. She told me that they rank only those programs that have been running for a period of atleast 4 years. Lancaster Masters program will be listed this year in september in masters rankings of FT. Furthermore, she says that if a business school`s MBA program is rated/ranked that high in the rankings thenn itz Masters program will be of that high quality at most times(management related streams only) I have been through all type of rankings that are listed till date. Even solely US rankings as well. FT, EIU, WSJ,US NEWS & world report, MBA info', RAE, HSMP, Scotland rankings, other european rankings, TIMES, Sunday Times, Guardian...many more. Strathclyde`s Marketing Department ...as listed on the website.....is the largest in Europe and among the oldest in UK. The course structure for MSC International Marketing seems very challenging and vibrant with Internship and Diossertation. Less of formal lecturing and more of student led learning. On the other hand, Edinburgh`s Msc Management also looks good enough but they dont have internship....they have dissertation by the nd of program. Yes, not even Edinburgh`s MBA has an internship. Edinburgh is considered to be among the top Brands in UK only after Oxford, Cambridge and University of London. Both these University enjoy 2 years work permit...even if one is not listed on the HSMP. I had a talk with UK Government Trasury Ex-chequer , Mr. Gordin, the one under whom the HSMP is listed. He told me that the new list will be published soon. Lets see which schools are on the list this time. I am not sure whether the schools that were listed on 2004 december on the HSMP ...if not listed in this current list of 2006 , which will be out soon....whetehr those excluted schools students be allowed a permit or not for a year in UK..... But Yes, it has provision for only MBAs ...n not ne type of MSC. Scotland in that case is the place .Else it is tough to get a job....not impossible though. Edinburgh is a bigger Brand/goodwill/reputation than Strathclyde ...I personally would rate Edinburgh among top 7 in Uk ....Strathclyde not in Top 10s... But for a job prospects after MSC Strahclyde would be at par with Edinburgh. Edinburgh might have a little advantage because of its goodwill . Most importantly, I am confused......in Strathclyde`s Marketing and Edinburgh`s Management. Give your views..please...they are most valuable to me....chow n cheers!!!!! give sum n get sum disconnect |

Msc Programs - Edinburgh/Strathclyde.....???
Sat Jul 15, 2006 05:16 PM Haha.....not a journalist....just a prospective student. I went to the financial times website. I put a mail to the editor of Financial Times. Yes, she talks to the people in the forum as well....forum of finanacial times. Regarding Mr.Gordon....I put a mail to him as well. I get information from him(team) on regular basis on the UK as a whole. Additionally, I did have a word with the professors and directors of Reputed Business Schools in Europe and US. It is better if one talks with the different aluminis of the B-schools one intend to join. Yes, they`ll be biased but some will put you into the right direction.I think one should get information from all sourses available...then make a decision oneself. One will be more satisfied and will have little regrets....rather none. I am looking for sum views of people here ..in this forum. Views will differ ...probably one will know the School better. (More)Positives and Negatives show up ....better for one. Hope pleople share theior views with me.....let it be nethin....hope everyone here is doin well.....cheers!!!! |

Msc Programs - Edinburgh/Strathclyde.....???
Sat Jul 29, 2006 05:01 AM I finally made my decision in favour of Edinburgh. Whosoever I asked regarding my decision, vouched for my decision. City I heard is the most beautiful in UK. It is situated on 6 hills. It is among the main financial centre of Europe. |

From 1998 (top score 24): 19 European languages. "There is full portfolio of courses in business, health, design and engineering. Programmes are flexible, with credit accumulation and transfer making for easy movement in and out of the university for an often mobile local workforce.Work placements, which can last up to a year, are the norm, helping an employment record that has been the best in Scotland for the past three years. In the whole of Britain, only Cambridge saw a higher proportion of leavers go straight into ‘graduate-level‘ employment in 2002. ... Only two of the subjects assessed in the main rounds of teaching assessment were rated Excellent, but a majority of the rest were considered Highly Satisfactory. Only 120 academic staff were entered for the latest research assessment exercise and none of the subjects featured in the top three of the seven categories. But the university has committed itself to winning international recognition for applied research in the current decade." www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/single.htm?ip… [Edited 28 Jun 2008 by LaVoz de Galicia] |
