Visa change

Hi,
I am on work-permit , L1/H1 visa in the US . If I join an MBA program , full time or part-time , do I need to apply for a F1 visa separately or is there a way to apply for the L1 visa to be converted to a student F1 visa?

Thanks

hiya. great question. definitely talk to someone at either the department of homeland security, US state department, or the u.s. consulate in your home country. give them a ring and get AN OFFICIAL answer. you may need to talk to a few different people, but it is worth it. there is so much bad and misleading advice spread around the internet about visa issues, so be careful.

that said, my hunch is that you will need to apply separately for the F1. i'll keep poking around for some info if i can find it. bests.

I found a good lead. Take a look at the "How Can I Change My Nonimmigrant Status to Become a Student If I Am Already in the United States?" section at
www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/academic.htm

From the thread it seems that an employee on L1 Visa can only file for a change of status through his/her employer. Is that correct?
