Visa change
Hi,Mon May 01, 2006 01:22 AM I am on work-permit , L1/H1 visa in the US . If I join an MBA program , full time or part-time , do I need to apply for a F1 visa separately or is there a way to apply for the L1 visa to be converted to a student F1 visa? Thanks |

hiya. great question. definitely talk to someone at either the department of homeland security, US state department, or the u.s. consulate in your home country. give them a ring and get AN OFFICIAL answer. you may need to talk to a few different people, but it is worth it. there is so much bad and misleading advice spread around the internet about visa issues, so be careful.Sat May 06, 2006 12:14 PM that said, my hunch is that you will need to apply separately for the F1. i'll keep poking around for some info if i can find it. bests. |

I found a good lead. Take a look at the "How Can I Change My Nonimmigrant Status to Become a Student If I Am Already in the United States?" section at Sat May 06, 2006 12:19 PM www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/academic.htm |

Visa change
From the thread it seems that an employee on L1 Visa can only file for a change of status through his/her employer. Is that correct?
