Is there anyone here in this board who knows, which MBA programs in Germany have the best reputation internationally, especially in eastern European countries? Thanks

Its hard to tell since almost none of the GErman MBAs take part in the rankings by Equis and the other institutions. I think the ESMT in Berlin should be a good bet, also ESCP-EAP in BErlin is known internationally. Did you have a look at the German B-school ranking (www.find-mba.com/mba-rankings)?

I'm an American and hoping to go to either Berlin (ESCP-EAP or BSE) or Leipzig for an MBA this year. Any thoughts about these schools?

As far as the location is concerned... well, you can only go to Berlin, its a great city, very vibrant. I also think that ESCP-EAP has a better reputation than Leipzig, actually I havent heard of Leipzig so far. ESMT in Berlin would be another choice, its supposed to become one of the top schools but it only got going this year.

The only German program that was discussed when I was doing my MBA (2001-2003) is WHU-Koblenz. Their international brand is driven by an association with Kellogg. My experience during a summer program there in Vallendar was very positive. If you are thinking about Europe you should be looking to the East not West. Poland, Ukraine and Russia are where the growth is, and having an MBA from Germany will do next to nothing for you. Hi, could you name me some B Schools in Ukraine or Russia which have an international reputation? Until now I didn't come accross any in the rankings, nor elsewhere. To me the MBAs you can do in those two countries seem to have a local appeal.

Thanks Warsaw School of Economics is the best business/economics school in the region. In fact it is by far the most highly recruited school by all the investment banks in London looking to fill positions dealing with Central/Eastern Europe. That is a fact, call up HR at JP Morgan or any other large bank in London and see what they say. That Warsaw Polytechnic might be good in hard sciences but not for business. |

Central/Eastern European universities will not show up in them for a while, the reason, simple, lack of $$$. As I mentioned before that Warsaw Tech school is very good but also very quantitative... I think overall Warsaw School of Eco is better known in Europe. As for Ukraine, and Russia, I am not sure, but Moscow has few top notch quant Universities, just not sure if they offer MBAs Usually in Central/Eastern Europe one gets an Msc in Eco/Finance not an MBA. |

Money certainly plays a role regarding rankings, but I'm sure if a Ukrainian or Russian MBA program had an as high international standard as, let's say, the top US MBAs, money would not be the problem preventing the program from being ranked...Wed Jun 06, 2007 11:14 AM Besides that, you can't say positioning in the rankings is only about money. It does reflect a certain international quality standard. It just looked weird to me that not a single one of the Ukrainian and Russian MBAs is to be found. But if you say MBA is not so common in those countries, maybe here lies the reason. Still I'd like to stress here that for me an Msc in Eco/Finance does not at all have the same value as an MBA - I believe employers have the same idean as me. [Edited by Irena on 06 Jun 2007] |

I plan to persue an MBA and have an offer from WHU. I want to persue a career in Management Consulting. how well known WHU for producing leaders in this space. Do the top consulting firms hire there.do McKinsey and BCG hire their grads.i have been told that " Essentially WHU is considered the Porsche of business schools in Germany. Elite, very restrictive selection process for new students, too. " i have also been told that " The MBA is a new kind of degree in Germany so the program may not have a long track record ". Also, I do not speak German yet. so how are the job prospects for an Indian who is not so fluent in the language. of course i do intend taking the German language tuition as well. i would appreciate if you could respond with any additional inputs about WHU. thanks Pavaanjeet pavanishere@gmail.com |

Furtwangen is e really good school. i did my undergrad there and i can only recommend the school. the faculty of business is located in villingen-schwenningen which is a relativley calm city with a total poulation of 80.000. the city itself is not really that great but it is not far from austria, switzerland, lake constance, stuttgart and other nice places. the professors were top-class business leaders before they joined the faculty of business e.g. a former member of the board at henkel, vice-president of deutsche bank, global head of recriuting at SAP and so on... the living cost in villingen schwenningen are low and the program fees are ridiculous, especially if you consider the high quality of the program. |

I am finishing up my MBA in Germany now at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL). It's consistently ranked in the top 3 in Germany and I would highly recommend it. It's been a great experience; good classes, good professors, good community and good job prospects.Thu Sep 25, 2008 03:21 PM Plus Leipzig is a nice town to live in; it's large enough that you won't get bored, there is a huge student population, and it's very reasonably priced compared with the rest of Germany and Europe. I've been to Leipzig a couple of times, staying for a few days on each occasion. I have to say, I completely agree with scall's comments - it's a great city, lots to do, lots of students, and a lot of history. In fact its probably the first place think of living outside Berlin. I've also heard good things about their MBA. I'd be interested to know, scall, whether you think German MBAs are a little underrated internationally, or whether they've just got better. Are you currently working in Germany?

I received an education that is every bit as good as what I would have received in the USA, but with an international flavor that is missing in the states, and at a fraction of the cost. As for working in Germany, I'm doing a internship here now and then I will start my full-time job in Hamburg in a couple of months. |
