INSEAD's new law degree?

Hey everybody,

I saw that INSEAD and the Sorbonne were launching a new business/law degree - called LLM International Business Law.

Just curious to see if anybody from this board was going to apply for the program. I'm pretty interested by it - do you think that the degree offered is comparable to an MBA? For somebody who is interested in international business and who would like to dabble in law - would this be a good choice? Or would INSEAD's normal MBA program be better?

It's a nice programme, with a degree from the Paris-Assas university and a certificate from INSEAD. I'm not sure if you get status as INSEAD alumni, and that would swing it for me one way or the other. For an LLM from a state university in France alone, then 40,000 euro is way over the odds when, for example there are already well respected LLM degrees for a fraction of the cost like the EMLE. And without alumni status, then the INSEAD brand is very diluted.

The INSEAD MBA, however, is a much better choice if you want to work in consulting or finance. The work outcomes will be better, since there's already a pipeline for recruitment.

Needless to say, the first year of any course is the easiest to get into, and will be full of teething troubles.

Thanks for your insight. I think this is probably right. On the other hand, do you think that the first year of the course will be less competitive, simply because it's new? Not that my profile is lacking, but it would be nice to sail through admissions into a new, possibly really exciting program.

Well, applications only opened on Monday and it's 40000 euro and the key question (will I be an INSEAD alum) is unanswered. So, I think you will be admitted if you're not too bad. The question in: why would you bet 40000 on a LLM from Parthanon-Assas?
