Hi all,
I m chartered accountant from India with a work ex of 5 years in Oil Industry commercial. I belive I have a rich experience and handled some important areas.

I have been waiting for professional enrichment before i opt for MBA.

Just to gauge score demand, I would like to have some insights about the scores one should target for world top MBA like HBS, Wharton, Stern...

If anybody could help me out there..

Well, honestly speaking, it would be good to have a 760 and above. Anyhow, I wouldn't rush to put Stern in the same group as HBS or Wharton.

Dear Fishball,
I hoped so that it would range in that area only, but i think scoring that in GMAT will not be so very easy considering when you are in full time job working 55-60 hours a week. My sincere appreciations for your truthful guidance. I was wondering only these kinds of scores are required to expect an invitation from any top schools ? I visited the HBS site and realised that there are candidates in 700-800 band, but could not precise make out what is expected of overseas students.
thanks once again, pl. PM me if you can provide me with further insights,
regards,

Required, no. I think any admissions person at these schools would tell you that they consider other factors (work experience and interview performance, perhaps being the biggest other ones). Very few schools I know of have rigid cutoffs or absolute minimum scores.

Off the record, however, they will probably admit that anything lower than 650 will hurt your chances. One reason for this is that top-tier schools are under a certain pressure to maintain their "Average GMAT Score" figures.

If you're going to get into these top schools, you're going to have to invest some time (and money) anyway. A little time preparing for the GMAT would be a good initial investment, I think.

Just my opinion. Good luck.

Well, what do you mean by "an invitation" ? As in they would invite you to apply? Or they would give you an advantage when you apply? I think, quite a number of schools would invite you once you've gone past the 650 mark.

And unfortunately, there are many who work 60 hours a week and are still able to score well in the GMAT. So realistically, most people who are in a full time job, do manage to score well.

I don't think there's an "expectation" for foreign students - although I hear that certain groups tend to do better than others. E.g. Indian IT, Chinese engineers, etc

Very true, I can realize what you mean, So to get into your taget school you have to manage good scores apart from your performance in interview and your workex. clearly to make some ground it would be some thing more than 650.
Thanks dear, very analytical response very useful,
