Full Time MBA in UK in Fall 2011
I am a B.E. in Electrical Engineering (2008 batch) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. I am working in Calcutta Electric Suplly Corporation (CESC) Ltd. since July, 2008 where my role is to lead a team of assistant engineers, supervisors, workmen and contractual employees in carrying out breakdown/ maintainance/ augmentation of electric network in the twin cities of Kolkata and Howrah.Sun Jun 20, 2010 12:10 PM I am interested in pursuing an MBA course in the UK in Fall 2011. My preffered Universities are: Durham University Bradford University Aston University Strathclyde University University of Bath Leeds University Please comment on my choices. Presently I have 2 years work experience and I will be applying to these Universities in October 2010. So I will not be having the mandatory 3 years work experience at the time I apply, but the same criteria will be fulfilled by the time I join the course (Septemeber, 2011). Howmuch will that prove to be a deterrent in my application? I am planning to give my GMAT and IELTS this August. Howmuch GMAT score do I need for this Universities with this job profile and what are the chances of securing a scholarship? Waiting eagerly for your replies... [Edited by prithwish on 20 Jun 2010] |

Who are you planning to give your GMAT and IELTS to this August? I would guess you would give them to the schools that you're applying - if in that case, you should give them a good score, try aiming for 700 at least. Chances are you might be able to win a scholarship then. Though I'm not sure whether any of the applications are open by August. I would suggest that you give your GMAT/IELTS to the schools with your application. I've heard of Strathclyde before - sad to say, the student quality was somewhat lacking (a former colleague attended Strathclyde). I'm not sure whether it will help you achieve your post-MBA goals. |

Come on people. Please help me outFri Jun 25, 2010 07:00 AM I contacted Leeds, Exeter, Nottingham and Glasgow and they are saying that they need 3 years work exp. at the time I apply. Aston says they need 3 years work ex. by the time I join. I'm terribly confused. [Edited by prithwish on 25 Jun 2010] |

@Akii, I don't know much about Hult and Schulich but Aston and birmingham are good schools though Aston has an edge because it has triple accreditation. You can also look at Durham. These 3 are ranked about the same.

@Akii,Fri Oct 22, 2010 04:12 PM As of now, I'm thinking of the UK only. This is due the one year programmes run in the UK as opposed to the US. The few european schools that i would consider going to has very high and stringent entry requirements e.g INSEAD etc. Also looking at business related oppurtunities I think the UK are better than schools in Europe |

@Evan2007.Mon Oct 25, 2010 11:36 PM Well it's based on the fact that there are more highly ranked business schools in the UK than there are in europe...these then makes for school to business collaboration much more rampant. With such link ups its easier for students to get consultancies and job oppurtunities. Thats not to say that such oppurtunities are not available in europe, its just that they are easier in the UK. |

It is quite true that exp is a major factor. In birmingham univ we have provision of 21 month and 24 month program for less experienced candidates....Try if you are interested....Perhaps I suggest you to post a good GMAT score and bargain univ to offer 1 yr program...Wed Nov 24, 2010 08:32 PM -Best wishes |

Full Time MBA in UK in Fall 2011
Hi guys,Fri Nov 26, 2010 03:46 PM I want to apply for FT MBA in fall 2011. My GMAT score is 650 and AWA score is 5.5. I've 6.5 years of rich experience with International exposure in IT Consultancy in one of the top companies of the world. I am planning to apply to the following universities: 1. Judge 2. Said 3. Warwick 4. IMD 5. Lancaster I already got a reply couple of days back from Cranfield that it is very unlikely to get a call with 650 score. Though before appearing for GMAT, I was thinking to apply to LSB and INSEAD but not sure how much my score will help. Can you please let me know your views on the chance of getting in one of the above schools with my given background? [Edited by dolphin82 on 28 Nov 2010] |

Full Time MBA in UK in Fall 2011
Hello Dear MBA aspirants & experts,Sat Dec 11, 2010 07:50 PM I would really appreciate some expert advice on some of my queries. I am sure there are some knowledgeable people on this forum who can help me out. I am looking for a FT MBA program in UK (pref. England) for September 2011 session. I presently have 2.9 years of work experience (as of today) and by the time I apply in February, I would have completed 3 years. In my case, I have a year of exp as an HR Exec with a small company, then another year with Accenture as a Credit Controller (Finance BPO) and now another year as a Website Content Writer with another small company. In my present role, I will also complete more than 7 months in the position of Project Coordinator of the Website Development Team (which is supervisory in nature). I have an IELTS score of 8.5 but no GMAT yet (looks unlikely). My bachelor;s degree is BBM from Bangalore Uni @ 65 % average over 3 years. in my 10th and 12th standards, English and Maths scores are quite good, above 85%. My questions to fellow aspirants and MBA experts on this forum are: *which unis should I be targeting this year? (realistic chances) *apart from GMAT, what else can strengthen my application? *for UK unis, is it a big disadvantage in applications if I am not able to produce a GMAT score? *what do you think are my problem areas in making a decent case for any reputed MBA program? I would really appreciate some honest words. Thank you! |

Your big issue will be a complete lack of any management experience. For all good MBA programmes (Tiers 1, 2 and 3)an ability to share experiences is vital to the learning process. If you have none to share, this is a big issue for the class!Mon Dec 13, 2010 10:59 AM I'd suggest you wait a couple more years, do the GMAT and target a good school. You will ot fully benefit from the MBA experience or get the best job benefits longterm otherwise. |

thank you for the reply lemming 176,Mon Dec 13, 2010 07:13 PM Just to clarify, I am performing in managerial capacity for about 6 months now. As I said, I am working as a Project Coordinator and that involves managerial duties like interaction with clients, directors of the company, my team of 5 and other support departments in order to get the project requirements right, get high-level and low-level plans in order, coordinating with other departments to make sure plans are executed accordingly. Apart from that, I do website-testing and also write content. I dont have significant managerial experience and I think thats why I require the MBA. I dont want to appear inefficient while leading a larger team. I hope you get my point. Also, I think I can make excellent contributions to the MBA class based on my experiences as an HR exec, financial analyst and content writer. I have a generalistic view of these departments, although not "managerial" in case of the first two roles. I had applied last year and I got unconditional offers based on 2.4 years of work exp from Liverpool, Swansea, Robert Gordon, Aberystwyth and Oxford Brookes. I didnt join because they were not my first preference. I also got conditional offers from Royal Holloway and Sheffield. The former asked for 550 GMAT and the latter for 3 years. In both cases, I couldnt fulfill the conditions. I agree with you in saying that post MBA employment may be tricky because I dont have a strong backup of exp in any specific domain. |

hi,Mon Dec 13, 2010 09:31 PM sorry to interrupt.....Today scenario is different in UK...If you wish to come UK,do it fast....I will suggest two options...First one....Find some medium univ and come as soon as possible...so that you will get your PSW visa....Or else I would suggest to add another 3 yrs of exp and look for premier univ with better GMAT...Now PSW permit has become a question mark.....So many rumors are going on....I am not sure....Choice is yours... Best wishes... |
