FT Ranking 2008 2009 2010Sun Feb 07, 2010 01:48 PM Aston na 77 73 Birmingham na 83 75 Nottingham 76 100 na What's up with Nottingham? For 2010, it is ranked out of top100 MBA. Compared to Birmingham, the requirements of Nottingham are even much more difficult, such as essays and interview. So the criteria can not reflect in FT ranking ? I got three offers above, I'm so confused, could anyone give me some advice? Thanks!! |

Aston, Birmingham, Nottingham MBA
HiSun Feb 07, 2010 07:11 PM Nottingham has a solid program and has good industry connections but I believe is not progressing as much as the others resulting in a slide away from the rankings. Also, it has only AMBA accreditation. I've checked with the HR of a few MNCs and they seem to consider NBS as one of the very best in UK, in the same league as Aston, Strathclyde, Durham etc. Can you please share your experience with Aston application? How long did it take them to process your application? Did you have an interview? Would you say it's difficult to get int Aston? Thanks Anirban |

Hey,Mon Feb 08, 2010 03:06 PM I sent my application forms around Christmas, and I received the offer at the end of Jan. without taking interview. It seems that I did not say it's difficult to get in Aston, since I was asked to write only 2 essays. I meant Nottingham instead, more than 6 questions and interview are required in Nottingham application. I want a school with campus, besides, I heard that W/E is not the key selection criteria for Aston. As for Birimingham, is it a good business school as Aston and Nottingham? Many thanks in advance. |

Hi Nico,Tue Feb 09, 2010 05:43 PM Can you please share your profile with us? Just trying to gauge my chances in Aston. I've heard they have very steep entry criteria and they literally hand pick the students they admit. If you are in, then you must have qualified in a number of criteria that the school puts weightage on. Congratz on your success! If I were you I'd definitely go for Aston. I have heard some very good words about the school from an alumni. If you are still confused, Aston is the only one amongst the list that has triple accreditation and is going up in ranks for the past 2 years (improvement is always a good sign). On the other hand, Birmingham is missing the AACSB accreditation while Nottingham is sliding down the ranks. For me, Birmingham doesn't work because their Internaitonal MBA is focussed more on international trade and finance, not something that I'm looking for. Thanks Anirban |

Hi, AnirbanWed Feb 10, 2010 03:44 PM for your reference: MSc in Finance with 3.9/4.0 GPA w/e: 2 yrs in TA- cost accounting 5 yrs in Big 4 btw, I filled with more than 2,000 words in Part.12-additional information of application form, I think maybe the detail information gave me some plus because of no limit to count numbers. Many thanks for your info about Birmingham, its useful to me. |

@ Nicodiaz:Fri Feb 12, 2010 06:41 PM Dude, u have a very good profile...would you mind telling us the b school where from u completed your MSc in Finance and why are you going for an MBA and not for professional qualifications like ACA/ACCA/CFA/FRM? I could use your insights for future planning...Cheers! Thanks _Nes --- [Edited by Nes on 12 Feb 2010] |
