How important or how strict is the IELTS scorings considered for admissions in Business schools like Nottingham, Aston, Durham, Bath, Leeds and Glasgow?

These are good B-Schools. They do have their individual IELTS criteria/policies and will stick to those. You may check those out on School websites.

IELTS is not that important while applying to these universities ...its GMAT that might be more important.....

Have you applied to these universities for 2010 intake....whats your profile....

I have a Bachelors degree in computer science and now have 30 months of IT experience. I have not taken gmat.
I have shortlisted these universities and have not applied yet.
Any suggestions?

Hey Rajgopal,

Start applying asap...people have started to take admissions...It takes 6 to 8 weeks for results after application...I have 7 plus years exp and IELTS score of 7....have applied to leeds, lancaster, durham, nottingham and uni of sheffield.....will apply to aston and bath in coming weeks....

I will put together all the documents right away.
I have not taken IELTS yet. I heard its not a problem as i can also send them one I get my IELTS exam results or after getting conditional admission letter.

I think I've read in another post of yours that you haven't taken the GMAT yet. Does Lancaster accept applications without GMAT? Did you hear back from them yet?

Hi Anirban,

Lancaster, leeds and warwich are not accepting application without GMAT this year...for candidates like me without GMAT Durham seems to be the best bet this year...

However news from UK are not good though.. Govt is abt to cut grants of universities there...it might affact many universities there...checkout the article in new paper The Guardian...

Hi Mitesh,

Thanks for pointing to that info. This means a probable hike in fees and definite cut in scholarships. Moreover, the job scenario isn't good at all. All in all, can't say that the coming year looks very bright.

But our age won't wait for the recession and neither would the other factors that might stop us from pursuing a MBA later on (factors that might stop you from pursuing a full time University based course).
For people with 7-8 years of job experience and a good job role at present, it is a tough decision to leave their job and a good salary and start the struggle afresh (for some it is a struggle for a better pay, for some a better position while some just crave the international MBA experience). But, if one has the zeal and passion for MBA, then risks have to be taken. MBA world is never going to be the same post the last recession, at least not for the next 3-4 years. Question is, can we afford to wait till then? Is it not better to try than repent for not trying at all.

You're right! Durham is a pretty good option. Have you applied to Aston? This school is climbing the charts consistently and has all the right credentials. Sounds pretty solid to me.

Hi Anriban,

whats your email ID we can chat over gmail...as you pointed out this is the best time for MBA like course...

Unitill and unless a person does not come out of his safe passage and don't take risk he wont get what he wants in life....

Being realistic defiantly situation is not good at the moment but it will be stable by sept 2011.....and should be on the track of good but slow recovery...
