EMBA to MBA without undergraduate degree?
Hi there,Thu Oct 01, 2009 04:22 PM I would appreciate your valuable advice and help concerning the above subject. I have gained an Executive MBA from an accredited institution here and wonder whether I can go for further studies in MBA or other master degrees in business administration or not. I have few years of experience working in managerial positions. What do you think? Is it possible for me to find a business school which will welcome me accepting my 450 credit hours? |

Are you serious? Why on earth would you want to get an MBA when you already have an EMBA?Thu Oct 01, 2009 04:52 PM Also, how did you get an EMBA with only a few years of experience? |

EMBA to MBA without undergraduate degree?
Thu Oct 01, 2009 05:13 PM Are you serious? Why on earth would you want to get an MBA when you already have an EMBA? Ralph, Thank you for your prompt reply. I've got an EMBA from a private institute here in Iran and as I said earlier, I want to continue my education to go far byond an EMBA. Any hopes exist? For the "a few years of experience", aren't 5 years of mid-level (managerial) work experience enough to consider me a qualified applicant? |

An EMBA degree is generally considered at least as valuable, or even more valuable, than an MBA. From wikipedia:Thu Oct 01, 2009 05:22 PM Executive MBA (EMBA) programs developed to meet the educational needs of managers and executives, allowing students to earn an MBA or another business-related graduate degree in two years or less while working full time... EMBA students typically have a higher level of work experience, often 10 years or more, compared to other MBA students. The "10 years or more" makes me wonder, are you sure you have an EMBA and not something different? |

EMBA to MBA without undergraduate degree?
Ralph,Thu Oct 01, 2009 06:20 PM I might have chosen the wrong name for this certificate. I'll be more clear about this. It is called One Year MBA where we took the following courses in three semesters: 1st Semester COURSES: - Organization Theory and Design - Strategic Management - Organizational Behavior - Economic and Accounting WORKSHOPS: - Management and Organizations Fundamentals - Decision Making Models - Legal Environments 2nd Semester COURSES: - Marketing - Budgeting and Financial Management - Human Resource Management - Negotiation Techniques WORKSHOPS: - Business Plans - LCs - Out Sourcing - Marketing Strategy 3rd Semester COURSES: - CRM - Consumer Behavior - Advertisement Engineering - Services Management WORKSHOPS - Marketing Research - Pricing - E-Commerce - The Planning & Management of Distribution Channels By the way, My work experience years are around 8 years. What would you advise me to do Ralph (thanks to you beforehand, of course!)? |

I see, that sounds more like a regular MBA than an EMBA.Fri Oct 02, 2009 11:03 AM In that case, with your 8 years experience, my advice would be to pursue an actual EMBA degree. EMBA programs are typically more forgiving in terms of having an undergraduate degree, instead valuing long-term work experience as a priority. |

EMBA to MBA without undergraduate degree?
Ralph,Fri Oct 02, 2009 03:01 PM Why to go through an EMBA (which is relatively a sister to the MBA) degree while I have this degree? Actually, I aim to pursue an academic degree (may be some research oriented education) in Masters level and some DBA or PhD. Do you think that this degree, the One Year MBA together with my 8 years of work experience would qualify me to apply for a Masters degree in Marketing? Thanks! |

This is a very strange thread. Sat Oct 03, 2009 11:05 AM Bashar - Maybe do a little bit more research of your own about the requirements for "academic" programs you want. Suffice it to say that you don't need to 2 MBA degrees to qualify for a Masters in Marketing. ;) [Edited by Alan on 03 Oct 2009] |
