Not heard of this university before, so I have just been having a look at their website, and I have to say that it is one of the hardest to navigate among all the schools i have looked at! They clearly are not encouraging students to apply. Tue Jul 07, 2009 09:48 AM When I finally got to the MBA section, information is clearly one thing they are not in the business of providing. And there seems to be no admissions deadlines. Did you have a look at the MBA brochure? It is a joke! Designed in MS Word... |

Yeah, you're right that it doesn't leave a good impression on the brand when the site doesn't look good. But I've actually seen b-school sites worse than this. And I think Carlos is considered one of the top-10 MBA programs in Spain. It's also got a AMBA accreditation, which is some kind of quality assurance.

Oh, and if the application deadline isn't on the website, you can probably just call them or email them and ask.

Its true that they seem to be well known in spain, and also have AMBA accreditation, but maybe they just aren't a good choice for international MBA students who don't speak spanish.

Jamie, you don't seem to be aware that the MBA at UC3M is also offered in English, not just Spanish. A few weeks ago someone who is currently doing the MBA there wrote a couple of detailed posts. You may want to read those to get more information.

Wed Jul 08, 2009 10:25 AM Jamie, you don't seem to be aware that the MBA at UC3M is also offered in English, not just Spanish. That wasn't actually the point. There are plenty of MBA programmes offered in english, but recruiters are specifically interested in people with additional language skills. There was a similar thread talking about Ceibs and other mainland China MBA institutions. The feedback from participants and alumni was that unless you spoke business level Chinese, then employment opportunities would be rare. I have a hunch that this may be the same in UC3M, but of course it is hard to tell from the outside. |

Of course you need to know Spanish if you want to work in Spain. I think what you meant to say is that UC3M doesn't have a well known international brand. So, might not be the best choice if you DON'T want to work in Spain. I'm a firm believer that if you go to a fairly well reputed school you'll still be able to get whatever job you want, you just might have to work harder than your counterparts at ESADE or IE.Fri Jul 10, 2009 12:00 AM If you do want to work in Spain, however, I am sure that UC3M offers good Spanish language courses. If that's what you want to do, it would certainly make sense to study there and get practice in the language! [Edited by sally on 10 Jul 2009] |

JR, you can e-mail mae@ceaes.uc3m.esFri Jul 10, 2009 12:09 AM and ask about the application deadline . It looks like their program doesn't start until late September, so you might still have time to apply. I inquired about this in May and was told "there is no specific deadline but we would suggest you send your application as soon as possible." [Edited by sally on 10 Jul 2009] |

Fri Jul 10, 2009 01:32 PM Since the program starts in September, it is possible that they gave you a quick admission so that you would have time to apply for visa in case you need one. I know that Spanish consulates are quite slow in granting visas and, depending on which country you are from, you might have problems getting it on time, particularly if you apply for it now. |

I haven't studied at Carlos III but I am Spanish and I know that it is one of the best universities in the country. It is also very well reputed outside Spain. I know that a current student from Carlos III has posted some comments in this board. Why don't you contact him? In his last post he mentioned that he was taking exams.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I actually e-mailed them and their response was that I could still send in my application but they didn't give me a real deadline. The problem is that if I apply and get accepted, I still need to apply for a student visa and that usually takes two months or so(I did it back in 2005). So it would be cutting it close. So it looks like I will have to wait until next year unless one of the other spanish programs offers a start up date in January.Wed Jul 15, 2009 03:56 AM I know UC3M is a great undergrad school, but my real concern is if I could get a job at a well-known firm in Spain, be it American, Spanish or other European country. I would like to stay in Spain or the EU for a couple of years and work there. I'm hispanic so the language would not be such a problem. Would anyone agree that being American would make it difficult for me to get a job in Spain or the EU? Thanks |

From what I've heard it seems like it's pretty possible to get a job in the EU after getting your MBA there. Obviously, it's best to get statistics and information from the career services departments at the schools you're interested in.Wed Jul 15, 2009 04:08 AM Someone mentioned on one of these boards that you typically get some kind of grace period to stay in the country and find a job after you graduate. Also, if you do an internship during your studies it would probably help your chances of getting a full time gig. You just have to find an employer to sponsor you for a work visa. The catch is that they have to show that no other Spaniard, or EU citizen, could perform the job as well as you. And the government could reject the applicaiton based on that. Maybe the EU "Blue Card" program will be implemented by the time you graduate. Then you wouldn't have to worry about that technicality. But, generally, if the job is specialized enough you have a decent chance at getting a visa. [Edited by sally on 15 Jul 2009] |

hi pplWed Jul 15, 2009 11:05 AM i feel Carlos has its own advantages like AMBA accreditation, which only 5 Spanish schools have,so u will study with ppl who have good work experience rated top spanish school in any website you check, faculty are good, heard likes from MIT n Harvard. it is not well known may be bcoz it in getafe, and uni started only in 1989, althou jus 1 hour from madrid...so living in madrid would be cool, i am planning to do tht. disadvantages is, classes r in evening, 5 to 8pm,english version, like UK gives 3 year work permit after MBA, spain does not give, language prob, since ppl speak only spain. all de best, anyone joining for MBA 2009-2010 and let me know about the same. also you can write me directly at sahibzada.masood@gmail.com |

Hi Tue Aug 04, 2009 11:41 AM I have done lot of research, Universidad carlos iii de madrid, is very good Uni,one of the top 5 in spain, you are thought by faculty from likes of MIT. I have the offer letter from the school for MBA, which is AMBA accredited , only 5 schools in spain are AMBA accredited. Although i have not yet accepted the offer because i am from asia india, and i dont know spanish and i dont belong to EU(european union), so i wont get direct full time work permit, like i get in uk after my MBA for 2-3 years full time work permit. Spain weather is good, so is the country beautiful, althou you will be studyin in getafe which is one hour from madrid.. getafe is not much happenin,, but u can enjoy in madrid, great partys. The uni will be good in financial analysis too as the uni also offer phd in "Business Administration and Quantitative Methods " all the best hope this helps. |

What, Massey? Google maps shows that Getafe is only 15 kms (9 miles) from Madrid's center! I mean, that's kind of far, but hardly an hour away. Wed Aug 05, 2009 12:41 PM Also, the #12 subway has a stop right next to campus, apparently. The train route isn't very direct, though, so maybe that's why you say it takes an hour? (It makes kind of an L shape and you have to switch trains once, I would guess it takes 30-40 minutes.. ) [Edited by sally on 17 Aug 2009] |

hmm.. i did some more research.. and according to metromadrid.es it does take about an hour to get from the Juan de la Cierva metro stop (near Carlos III) to get into the city center via the subway system. But by car it's only about 20 minutes, according to Google maps.

Sorry for delay but I have not looked at this site for ages - I wrote the note about life at UC3M.Wed Aug 26, 2009 04:53 PM To get to the university there are a number of options, but it does not take an hour from Madrid - do not go there by metro or you will be travelling all day!!! The train from Atocha is 20 minutes, so from Sol less than 22 minutes. I used to get a bus from Plaza Eliptica in the south of Madrid which took 10 minutes. From my house near central Madrid that was a door to door journey of 30 minutes. Hope this helps. |
