Top 5 MBA Blogs of the Week - January 27, 2008

By Maren[FIND MBA] in FIND MBA Blog on Jan 27, 2008

This week, we've got Russian chess, Indian cricket, Mongolian BBQ, Chicago style, and French con-men. Yes folks, it is the global bazaar that is the MBA blogosphere. We'll be your guide. Don't go wandering off now.

01. In the week that Bobby Fischer, perhaps the world's greatest-ever chess player, died, CS, an MBA student at Harvard Business School, went to visit IBM's California headquarters, home of their Extreme Blue laboratories. Fans of chess will remember that in 1997 IBM's Deep Blue played a now legendary, and highly controversial, series of games against another contender for Fischer's title, Gary Kasparov. Deep Blue was subsequently dismantled, but you can get a peek at Extreme Blue here.

02. Like Sid, who's doing his MBA at Ohio State's Fisher College of Business, I don't want to harp on about the Indian cricket team's latest victory over the Aussies. Actually, yes I do.

03. Here's an illustrated how-to guide to Mongolian buffets from MBAer Stuart Little (maybe not his real name, unless he is a mouse), at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

04. Finally! Thanks to Susan at Copenhagen Business School for clearing this up once and for all.

05. Back in 1995, City trader Nick Leeson was credited with single-handedly bringing down one of Britain's oldest financial institutions, Barings Bank. Worse, in so doing, he was also responsible for the absolutely appalling film "Rogue Trader," starring a pre-Obi Wan Kenobi (i.e. unbearded), Ewan McGregor and Anna Friel. Now France has decided it wants some of the action. Hopefully, though, the film will be directed by this man, and look more like this.
