MBA Students Increasingly Value Social Issues, Says Study

Compensation and career challenges still top concerns at 15 b-schools

Apr 23, 2008

The Aspen Institute Center for Business has published a survey of MBA students at 15 business schools, which reveals that while salary is still a high priority, a business's social responsibility is emerging as a top concern, especially among women.

Getting a job with a positive impact on society, however, decreases for men as they move through the MBA program. The findings also suggest that while students' values may be changing, "many of them sense those beliefs are not valued by employers or linked to career opportunities."

The survey, "Where Will They Lead? MBA Student Attitudes About Business and Society" involved nearly 2,000 students at 15 business schools in the USA, Britain, and Canada. The last survey was conducted in 2002. The 2008 survey can be found here.
